Hi everyone,
well, after not having had a bird for twenty years, and after thinking about it long time and a lot of research I've taken the plunge today and bought one - in a pet shop (which I'd promised myself not to do ).

Anyway, my boy is a juvenile Alexandrine (neck ring just starting to show) not hand reared but quite obviously used to human contact, very friendly and not scared. After only a few minutes talking to the 8 different birds in their cages, he and his cage buddy came clambering to the front without fear and started chatting to me :D. He didn't like the idea of me touching him, but just slowly moved a little away from my hand without signs of stress.

Sooo, next I gently held my finger close to the cage a little away from the birds and the boy climbed right over to have a number of gentle testing nibbles, no sign of distress or aggression or anything.

Well, to make a long story short, I just couldn't resist. I've been hunting for some time but with Alex's being right out of breeding season Down Under there are not many around for the next 6 months or so. I had wanted hand reared but I'm quite sure with patience we can become friends seeing that he at least seemed to like me.

Went home, immediately ordered the cage I'd been looking at online (cheaper than equivalent in shops so I could splash out on size a bit more) and now have to wait for delivery before I can bring my boy home.

I'm sooo exited, and now even getting a little nervous if I'll be a good mum for him :p.

Congrats! And good luck with the cage too
