Sonic boom

There was a mysterious one here in Florida today with no confirmation as to what caused it. I heard it and it sounded like a bag of bricks landed on my roof. I looked outside and then just brushed it off. Later on I found out that everyone heard it.

What's weird is that Peanut acted absolutely insane all day, way before it happened. She was biting me which she has never done before and non-stop with the flock call which was nerve wrecking. Now I know what it was. As if the mysterious sonic boom isn't interesting enough, she knew it before it even happened.

At best maybe a couple of minutes in advance, more likely seconds. Sonic Booms are tightly regulated and rarely occur in civilian areas. The Military works to avoid such, since there is resulting damages, assigned costs to repair those damages and general complains.

If you are totally into the belief that your Peanut was able to predict the sonic boom. You may want to let the air base near you know of the unique abilities of your Parrot. The advance knowledge of such an event would be of great use to avoid a sonic boom. Their interest would be twofold; clearly avoiding the event and if possible, limit their losses.

Depending on atmospherics, speed, and the aircraft design, the "bow wave" of a sonic boom can reach a large distance. Aircraft flying at supersonic speeds usually do so for a fairly short time as the fuel consumption is enormous.

There is plenty of research being conducted to eventually permit supersonic transports to fly over the U.S. Part of the problem is softening the blow and vibration to avoid serious disturbance. Of course, animals are generally more sensitive and will react long before you are aware.
