Just for laughs... :)

I found this newspaper at my dad's house...

Look at the date haha!!

If you think that's bad... Look at this! :D I haven't had a chance to crack it open and take a look at it yet...

Hey, I think those things are kind of cool. That PR book from the 60's would be an interesting read and give some interesting insight into how things have changed:)

When my grandpa died, his room (which no one was allowed in for some decades) was something of a 'hoarder' situation. Every newspaper, magazine, bill, note going back to the 60's was in there. We found a really large CHAIR buried in there no one knew existed. It was really cool to go through that stuff before we burnt it in the bonfire pit (chair included). Took the family a couple years to get through it all. I find old junk a unique look back in time. You know, there are actually a small group of 'landfill archeologists" now who actually dig through landfills to study what kind of stuff survives (which is pretty much everything, nothing really decomposes in landfills) and they date their dig by the old newspapers. I'd keep on hanging onto those things if I were you:)

Oh I agree! It's funny, but like you say, it's interesting stuff. He has large stacks of National Geographic. I know those are worth something, but I doubt they are all there with none missing, as many of them as he has. I have to look and see how far back the dates go.

When I get time, I'd love to sit and read and look at all the old books and things. I know he has more stuff from the 60's. Maybe even before that.

My great aunt also saved everything! She also had several years worth of National Geographics that fetched a pretty penny for my sister, who inherited them.
Definitely save those old things, they could definitely be worth money someday:)
I still have a book of proper ettiquette that was published in the 1860's that I adore!!!

Yep - my dad does the same thing. He says he's going to sell the house and move. I hope so, that will save me the job of throwing things away later because I know he is too cheap to pay to move things.

My mother is the WORST packrat. She has stuff from when I lived there over 24 years ago. I've told her over and over again to toss the stuff, but she refuses... Things like my graduation gown and wedding dress (which I'd gladly burn given the opportunity.)

Wow, 1860's Terry? I bet you have to be super careful with it. I'd think it would almost fall apart when touching it!

I think the Nat Geo's lose value if they have some missing. I'll have to check it out one day.

That is so neat. The newspaper brought back memories of Jordache jeans, leg warmers, and big hair. I've always had thin hair so I never got to do the big hair look but now I think thank GOD I couldn't lol. Sounds like a treasure hunt. Wait till you find pictures, we did when my grandmother passed away, pics we didn't know existed, oh and bills she saved, why I don't know but it was neat seeing how different things cost years ago.

Sell the dress - don't burn it. Or if you have grandkids...make blankets out of it for them.

I did find a receipt from I think it was 1972? I kept it.
Although styles do come back around, those "workout wear" styles with headbands, one piece leotards with high cut legs, leg warmers... That I'm sure will NEVER be back in style thank goodness! Once women discovered workout pants, and tank tops, there was no turning back :D

That pic reminds me of the "Let's Get Physical" video by Olivia Newton-John..lol
