Hello everyone,

I have found a source for some crab apple wood (pesticide/chemical free) and am very excited to make Cody a natural play gym. I don't really know where to start, however, as in what size branches I would need, and how exactly to put them together? If I could get any examples from anyone, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

Well, a good place to start would be to decide if you want it to be a stand up perch or a hanging perch. It's a good idea to get branches of varying width so that your birdie can exercise his or her feet. Putting them together can be tricky, but it's not impossible lol. To attach the branches to one another I suggest using wooden dowel pins and some type of natural rope like jute. If you're going to use bigger branches, then stainless steel dowel screws. If want to fasten toys to the gym look for stainless steel loops, but make sure you match the size of the eye loop, to the size of the branch, you don't want that end to poke through on the other side. I'll post pics of two different sized gyms that I made recently.
