Well I thought I would share these facts incase anyone ever runs into any of these same troubles as I have with Loki. It might help there Bird, not only a cockatoo but most Larger birds I would say in general.

I will start with the Poop. everyone think poop is all bad but there are good in poop and its the white part ! SO if you don't see any white parts at all that means your bird "could be " lacking the natural Good gems that are produced in his/her body to help fight infection ! One easy way to help with this, get some plain yogurt and that will help keep him/ her balanced as long as they have not gone to far one way or the other.

Your birds Lungs. If you are outside with your bird on a sunny day or at the park and someone starts Mowing the lawn..... GO INSIDE !!! take your bird and get out of there ! Cut grass and high pollen days will start to produce Fungal spores that will get into your birds lungs and "can" cause a fungi to grow, causing it hard for your bird to breath, and later develop into a respiratory infection or disease. It can be treated but is hard on your bird for sure and will not easy to catch without lung bio's.

Also notes for yourself to know when talking with your vets, your birds lungs sounds almost look and feel like saran wrap , shiny and slippery, and smooth. There are blood vessels that line there lungs but they sound only be exposed if there are troubles.

Your birds Skin and if they Cut them self...If they get a bad cut, bird can get air pockets around there cuts which is very damaging to there skin and themselves. This will also happen if a Blood feather is pulled. Its not common from what my vet tells me but can become a very nasty skin infection that spreads extremely fast all over there body. So if you have a bird that is a plucker just every no and then check them over for air pockets on there skin. Or if your bird has Stiches, or has suffered a cut make sure it does not form the air pocket if it does. take your bird to the vet ASAP.

Your birds eyes ( this is for Cockatoos or light colored birds) We all know how upset these little guys get when they don't get there sleep ! The doctors say these little guys need a Solid 12 hours a day, which should be broke down to 10 hours at night with a 2 hour nap in the middle of the afternoon. Just like a baby. One sure fire way to tell if your cockatoo is not getting his/her sleep is around there eyes, there little feathers will turn a darker color then the rest of there face ! almost like little dark circles in human that don't get enough sleep. So the best thing to do, is have a set bed time each and every night don't change there bedtime. The nap time can change if your out but should stay the same if your home, just like a baby.

GAS ! birds has gas too ...... does your bird sit and move his toung all the time and is not eating well ? is his little tummy growing ? Well chances are he may have GAS .... if your bird has gas there is Medication the vet can give you. Yup I was shocked to. Its the same medication as humans take called Gas-x but in bird form. Now im not saying go out and buy Gas-x by any means. The bird version is built for birds ! But there is help for your birds gas :)

Pain relieve for birds...A lot of us sit and think what happens if he/she get hurts, can they take Advil or Tylenol. Well your Bird can ! He/she can take BABY Advil. Tylenol in any form is not recommended because it is hard on the Liver, kidneys, and heart. But be careful Birds are SMALL and you don't want to over dose so contact your vet for a dose that is right for your bird.

Well that is all I have for now. I am sure as Loki goes through his classes with his doctors I will learn more and I will share. ! I hope this helps out.

Thank you for sharing..... sorry you have had to learn and teach us thru Lokis suffering, but glad you are home!!
