Hey there people.

a few years back now i adopted an Orange Winged amazon and he had a problem with his feathers. I don't think he was plucking them but they were very tatty and lacking a lot of them on his front. (See image)

After about 8 - 10 months along after changing his diet from a mainly seeded diet to a Harrison's pellet and home made chop He seemed to be coming a long way and was starting to grow a lot of them back. (see image again)

But recently i have noticed that his feathers are starting to deteriorate again and i have no idea why. He gets a shower every week even tho he didn't like this at first he has got used to it and started to enjoy it now (see vid)

As you can see from the vid the feathers on his front have gone bad again. He isn't plucking them out at all tho he does groom himself a hell of a lot :p

So yeah some advice on this would be nice as i am stumped and everywhere i have looked have just talking about a diet but i'm sure the diet he is on is quite balanced.

Thanks in advance

To my inexperienced eye, it almost sounds like barbering. You say he grooms himself a lot, which could mean instead of wholesale plucking feathers, he could be destroying them while still leaving them on himself.

Could you check in with an avian vet? A blood test might show a deficiency. After you can safely rule out anything that might show up on a blood test, then you'd be in a better position to tackle other potential causes of his barbering (if that's what it is).

Above plus, is he getting natural non filtered sun light?! Very important for our birds. ...
