The breeder I'm buying from breeds four subspecies of Eclectus: Aruensis, Grand, Vosmaeri, and Solomon Island. When doing research there's not much about the differences between subspecies besides physical attributes, but the Solomon Island did get some praise on one site.
When speaking to the breeder, she told me that the only subspecies that would be ready for sale for the next good while would be the Solomon Island and the Aruensis, and even though I said I was interested in the SI, she seemed to push the Aruensis because she said they're bigger (which is true) and therefore talk more easily and readily around people.
She also charges $700 more for her Aruensis babies which I think is the primary push for her to try and change my mind. I've read that the SI eclectus make for the best pets because they are more laid back and friendly, and I'm not necessarily interested in a parrot that will cost $700 more just to be louder...
So I was wondering if any of you guys had subspecies input for me? I know that's more of a long shot since most of you keep your parrots as pets rather than just breeders, but while I love everything else about this breeder, this question has been nagging me a bit.
