Soda bottle caps as toys?

So I get a decent collection up of plastic Soda lids (Diet Coke fan here) and am wondering would they be safe for my Quaker? They're food safe, and was thinking hey could be easily tossed around, threaded together, or even made into small foraging toys for effectively no cash!! Does anyone have any thoughts on them?

Sounds Ok to me as long as you are sure they are properly cleaned just to be safe. Make sure there are no little bits left easily available for little beaks to pick/eat from puncturing them for threading. Don't forget a pic when you have finished creating LOL.

Just make sure they are clean, and all the other things you use with them are safe :)

Thanks plumsmum and SilverSage. I'll take those thoughts into account :). I've got some ideas to try out, and there is a place here in Australia that sells parrot safe rope and cardboard, so I will post up my constructions with pics when I've built them :D

Totally safe to use drink caps. My parents parrots love getting a bottle cap with a little (watered down)100% fruit juice in it. They all will hold the cap like a little bird cup to drink, then tear up the cap once their done.

A real simple toy. Take a bowl and throw a bunch of different caps in it, mix in a couple treats and let your buddy dig in!

Some awesome ideas there peeps! I'm going to keep a list and use these. Glad I asked the question now hehehe.

Rbird used to LOVE soda caps... over the years, it slipped my mind (I was trying to cut down on soda, but)...

Unbelievable.

I am ON THIS!

Thank y'all!

I love this place.

Poppy loves bottle caps, her favorite is a few added to her dry food bowl.

Not bottle caps but another super cheap toy is ping-pong balls. At least for the little beaks.

They bounce, make a neat noise and (according to Stephen) are the devil and must be got.

While we're tossing ideas around (pun intended!)... it's hard to beat PVC stuff... pipes, fixtures, assorted thingies. You can just offer them, string them, push green beans or chiles in 'em... sometimes i put a layer of them in Rb's pellet bowl, so he can toss them out before eating. That's about ss sophisticated a "forage" toy as he can figure out. I go shopping at the local DIY store every now and then.

I just did this tonight - what a hit with Salty. It kept him occupied for an hour while Geri was cooking, occupied and out of the way in his cage. Thanks for the idea, Flboy

My Quaker and green cheek LOVE the little balls that are meant to be cat toys! They are cheap and you usually get like 4 or 5 in a pack...some are hard plastic with holes in them and some have fabric around them, and they grab the fabric and can actually throw them and chew on them! They also like to land on the budgie's open cage top, unhook their string of plastic balls toy, then go to the bottom of the cage and Rio the balls off of the strand...little jerks!

My JoJo loves those little cat balls that have a bell inside.
Leaps & Bounds Lattice Ball and Bell Cat Toys, Pack of 4 balls | Petco Store

He bangs them all around, carries one to the top of his cage, shakes it then watches it bounce to the bottom. Over and over!
Wife's Bongo chases his like it is a death mission! They are both small enough to not be able to break them open. That bell by itself is a hazard!
