soaked seed how to??????

Hello i need a little bit of a helping hand im not to sure how to do soaked seed for my 8 week old alexandrine i will be getting her off the breeder in 4 days and i wanted to start mastering the art of sprouting seeds for her the breeder has told me he is sprouting COURSE PIGEON MIX for "cookie" my new alex. what is the best possible way to do this thank you

My Mom used to be reaaallly nervous about sprouting for me. Then she discovered Leslie Moran's book, The Complete Guide to Successful Sprouting for Parrots. Problem solved. The trick is to learn to sprout for where you live.

Then, she discovered that the sprouting blends (Best bird Food Ever!) that Leslie puts together truly are the best! Hope this helps.

Yes that is also where I learned to sprout. From Leslie Moran's book. Oh and the sprouter that you can buy makes sprouting way easier.

can anyone just answer as to how to sprout seeds, dont really want to purchase a book

Ok. Buy a sprouter and seeds. Soak the seeds overnight (12 hours) in warm water with 4-5 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). Rinse and let seeds sit with no water. Rinse them twice a day. After 2-3 days they will start sprouting then store in fridge.
In the sprouter, you will also find instructions.

Different types of seeds have somewhat different directions, but Echo's directions are pretty good. Some require longer soakings, some less, etc.

I've considered getting the bird spout seeds from this place, but I haven't tried them yet. The website is pretty informative too.

Yes it is the Easy Sprout I was referring to (makes the process so easy). I get seeds and pulses from everywhere and it is true that some seeds/pulses have shorter/longer soaking time but in my experience it is best to soak a little longer rather than not enough. I make it easy on myself so I can mix all kind of seeds together and soak for 12 hours. Some will sprout a bit earlier than others so I wait until I see a sprouting on pretty much everything and start serving. Then the coldness of the fridge will slow down the growth so you can have sprouts for 2-3 days (make sure to still rinse twice a day or you will grow mold!) You want to serve the sprouts as soon as you see a little sprouting, not a long of a sprout, it seems the parrots like freshly sprouted seeds.....

awesome thank you all so very much for all your help i started 2 days ago and i started to get little white sprouts out of my sun flower seeds because i want to make sure i master it befor i get cookie on saturday. Im starting to use a PIGEON mix today so ill see how that goes ecause the breeder said that is what he is feeding her atm.

there's a seed sprout mix at foodlion here in town.. I'm assuming that's not good to use.. correct? I'm very curious about seed sprouting too there's not a ton of solid info on it haha

i have seen a few sprouting mixes on the net but it can easily be done if you local pet shop sells the seed on its own you can make up your own blend.

Yes you can. I try and get some that do not have colored seeds or dried fruits or pellets for sprouting.
