So today I came home from work today. Yuki also came with me. Well I went to put Yuki in her outside aviary. My sister put Alex and Kowhai(Lutino IRN) in there this morning as we knew it was going to be a nice sunny day.

Well when I went to the aviary everything was opened! Alex and Kowhai weren't there! I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. Everything in there small aviary was knocked over. All their perches, toys. Kowhai's feathers were everywhere! D: I followed the feathers and found Kowhai in a corner in distress. She was freaking out.I started to talk to her and say her name. She started to calm down. I was able to get her to step up, though when she was on my hand she did give me a huge bite. I then put her back into her cage. I had to take her out not long after as she didn't want to stay in it. She looked so frightened D:

Yuki started to call for alex and then I heard alex call back. It was quite faint. I searched everywhere and found him hidden under a blanket on top of charlie's(aka Charmer our BE2) outside cage. He looked so happy to see me.

My poor babies, I have no idea what happened to them. Well I do have an idea, since everything was actually removed out of place, even toys. I think somebody tried to steal them. D: I do think Alex and Kowhai would of given who did this quite of lot of bites. Alex hates strangers and Kowhai isn't keen on anyone trying to grab her. Egh, so many things are going through my head. We usually have a padlock on the aviary but my sister forgot to put it on this morning. I know the door was shut properly as I did check on the two before I headed to work.

Though I'm glad I took Yuki to work with me as I know she would of been happy for a stranger to just pick her up and take her. I am just so scared. Kowhai is still a bit in shock though she does seem to have calmed down a bit. She is now letting me touch her and she has been given me lots of cuddles. I think it's a sorry for biting you.

Im going to book Alex and Kowhai into the vet, as they may have internal injuries. I would say I am more worried about Kowhai, I know I may be a little paranoid but I saw so many feathers. I know she is moulting as well but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I feel so scared, I am just worried about everything. Like what if this person comes back. Should I put them back outside? Even when we are home. I am so glad that I found my babies.

Though I hope they are fine D: I can see that this was very traumatic for these two. Kowhai doesn't even want to go back to her cage. I took her out after I found Yuki. Well she is on my bed atm. She seems very happy I was going to put her back to her cage but she just freaks out and screams. Its going to be dark soon and I know it wont be safe for her to stay out of her cage. So what should I do? She freaks out when she seems a cage/playstand. She wont even go near it. I could put her in a box for the night? She doesn't mind the box but she is now hating her travel cage. And I don't know where I should keep her while im not at home.

Sorry for the long post :(

Oh, that is so bad! :( Luckily Alex and Kowhai is ok!

I would not put them outside within this few weeks, just in case that person comes back to get them again. That would be so scary! :(

I would keep Kowhai in a box tonight inside with you if she doesn't want to go in the cage, so she's safe.

I hope everything will be fine!!!

It is bad, I am just so scared. I was thinking of not letting outside for a while as well. I hope Kowhai has calmed down tomorrow. Alex doesn't seem to be worried. Hes just acting normal.

And thank you, so do I. I really hope Kowhai isn't hurt. :(

Figer crossed for you that everything is gonna be ok!

I'm just thinking about how it happened right now.

Are you sure that it was a person? Becuase why did s/he actually leaved the door open and leaved Alex and Howhai? Are you sure if it wasn't a cat or something like that?

My first thought was a cat but my sister did say she shut it. As it's actually quite hard to open.

Another reason why I don't think it was a cat is because four of the brand new toys we put in there last night is missing. Those toys cost me $100+ :( One of them cost me $46. There also were a couple of bags with broken toys. Those broken toys were all over the ground.

I am pretty sure we put in the aviary last night. My Mum thinks it may have been some of the neighbours kids trying to mess with the birds. Which what I was kind of leaning to as well. As we do kind of live in the "troubled/bad" neighbour hood.

Oh that is sad :( Yeah, I have a few naughty kids around where I live too. But it wasn't that bad that they were stealing stuff. They just keeps on throwing rubbish into my backyard which is very annoying!

how upsetting for you and your birds :(

how sad that we live in todays world where nothing is safe anymore.

maybe a good guard dog would help keep intruders away

I would not leave them outside unless your home to watch them. It is not worth the risk.Just my opinion:)

omg ash  i'm so glad they are ok. i can only imagine what was going thru your head when you first seen it. if you truly believe it someone tried stealing your beautiful fids, i agree with the above posters and would only have them outside when some one is home. that is unles you have a neighbour that you can trust and is within ear shot to keep thier eyes and ears open. its realky sad when we have to compromise our and our fids happiness due to society.

Oh my god Ash ! A man will do anything for a parrot  . I would file a police report if I had enough evidence, are you ? I agree, I would keep them inside for a week or 2 . If he tries it AGAIN , you should definatly file a case. Fingerprints anywhere ? So glad the fids are safe !

Thanks everyone, yea we are only going to put them outside when someone is home now. If it does happen again we will file a report.

I do feel a lot better now. Kowhai seems to be fine now, she will go into her cage but I was only able to get her to go back was to bribe her with treats. I had to show her that it's still a safe place to be. The poor girl :(

I'm just glad they didn't catch them and took them along with the toys as the toys can be replaced. I would be weary about leaving them in the aviary when your not around to watch them, even with the padlock, they can be cut loose. Glad they're still with you!!!

So sorry to hear they had to go through that!!! It's one reason why I'm afraid of having an outside cage for my birds, as badly as I want one! I don't trust people not to do something they shouldn't.

How are they doing now?

My two are doing fine. Kowhai is a bit wary of cages. She stays out of her cage most of the time now. Ive put food bowls on top of her cage and she still doesn't really want to go back to her cage. I give her treats when she does go to her cage. As I can't leave her out 24/7 esp when no one is home.
Vet said they were fine but he said that it has given Kowhai a traumatic scar. He said that it will take some time for her to trust her/any cage again. He told me to just keep on doing what im doing.

Me too! I hope Kowhai can settle down soon and feel safe again!

It's a shame someone would try and steal your birds. I'm glad things are working out. I can relate to the bird who was traumatized. When traveling with my zons and staying in hotels, i could always tell when the maids had been in the room.Things like that can change a bird , hope your's recover OK.

I keep many birds outside now (24/7) and worry about someone messing with them. I use electric eyes, motion directer lights and a very good dog. I also have 3 JRT who will let you know if a acorn falls outside, lol.

Glad your birds are safe, and I was thinking if you're going to be keeping them outside again in the future, You should really invest in a Web Camera with Motion Capture.
They also have them so they can E-Mail you right away when they capture motion (you can normally adjust the sensitivity so it can ignore the bird's movement)

ETA: Most Webcams use WiFi can can be had for $100 to $200 with Night Vision.
