I have been planning on reworking my parrot cages for a month now. Taking everything out cleaning it really good, tossing old toys no one likes, replacing almost everything, dragging cages outside to scrub down and clean.... I tend to wipe everything down good with vinegar and such but they could all use a really good scrub and hose down.

Well I finally bought some toys, replacement perches, made some more toys, rummaged through collection of bird stuff to find toys we bought but never used... Now who wants to actually take everything out clean it and scrub down the cages????

My collection of replacement toys and perches...

Foot Toy Baskets I made for Folger and Loki

I made up the mats and the ones hanging on the cabinets. I think I have enough toys after making these up but figured I could throw together more if needed after I put everything in the cages this weekend.

Looking at it all makes me cringe...a lot of work in my near future:52:

My cage next! Come and do mine!

My cage next! Come and do mine!

No thanks:p I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get this done Saturday while also going up to the rescue:eek: I'm thinking there is going to be some perchless birds clinging to the side of the cage for a couple hours or maybe one perched birds while I run up to the shelter for a few hours:54:

You know you could come south and help me.
You don't even know me but you could still do it for me.
I've met your mom and it would be wonderful to meet you.
Don't you want to come and help me? Please???

Great job, Victoria! I know you'll find a way to get everything done and your flock will appreciate your hard work! I can't imagine your birdies being perchless for very long. I bet the birds at the rescue adore you.

Did you go up to the shelter one day?? I missed it....unless there was a blonde at the table with an amazon not talking because then I would have been there :p

Your mom met me (and a friend of mine) at the shelter one day during the week. Quite frankly I was overwhelmed.

Yeah the shelter can be a lot to take in at one time. Did Jeanne make you clean any cages??? Usually people get put to work when they come.

We started doing toy making days at the shelter. Should keep a look out on the facebook page for the next sign up! So far we've only done one but lots of fun and quite a few toys made up. Plus, Jeanne and John supplied food for everyone:D

Sweet collection!

Victoria, I won't even ask you to come and work on my cages. I'm not going to ask you to do anything at all. I'm just going to ask you NOT to look my way... as I eagerly raid your collection of toy parts. Whoo-hoo!

No - she didn't make me clean cages. Fact is...I would have left if she had. She took us to lunch. It's a four hour trip for me and an additional hour for my friend. I can't drive that amount of time by myself. if I drove...I'd have to rest when I got there. I would love to come some weekend to make toys but I think I'd better wait until my home situation is settled before I commit to anything like that. Otherwise my kids might kill me. :D

Some of them;) Then you have the others who would like to eat me...though Jeanne and Mother always high five each other basically when one of the birds hate me since it doesn't happen often enough for them:rolleyes:

Hahaha we probably wouldn't notice anything missing at first! Though if you steal all the foam Folger will come after you to get it back....run fast :D

It's not so much she makes but people tend to end up doing something or other while they are at the shelter...though if you planned the visit they probably tried to have everything done before you got there! Yeah the drive from Maryland would be quite a lot but every once in awhile would be fine right:D Plus, the shelter now has a pool....

Oh wow - the pool is in. Every once is a while would be okay but right now I have to find a place to live where I can take my furry and feathered friends with me...so my family wants me to stay focused on that task. They just do not understand how my feathered friends can take my mind off of what I should be doing.

I used to run track, so I'll take my chances with Folger. Lol!

Your shelter has a pool?!? Most impressive. Where is it, again? And what's it called?

The shelter is on Jeanne and Johns property. So technically Jeanne got a pool not the shelter but its a good bribe for volunteers too :p I'm waiting for the call from Jeanne that there is a black bear in her pool!

The shelter is located in Blairstown, NJ and is called A Helping Wing.

Nice collection! Lucky birds. ;)

So I got it all done today! I took everything out of their cages and scrubbed them down late afternoon yesterday. After everything we did earlier in the day there wasn't enough time for me to finish everything yesterday. So I had to scurry around and figure out how to have everyone out for a night:eek:Folger I figured would be alright since if you stick him on a stand and don't bother him he just sits there and doesn't move much. He did even better than I thought he would. He slept in the lower living room all night perched on top of our fosters playtop cage and when I came up in the morning he was just hanging out in the same spot eating the food I left out for him. My uncle was over for a visit so he was sleeping on the couch and Folger never made a peep the whole time.

The little birds I just left out downstairs in my room all night. The room is safe (for them at least since none of them bother with cords except Kelly) since they are often out down there anyway. Kelly on the other hand had to be left in a travel carrier. He just isn't a safe one to have out and about since he doesn't stay still plus he tends to chew on everything he finds especially when he is mad or on the floor. The whole thing made me twitchy but the cages and perches didn't have enough time to dry plus I had no one to help me put perches on cages since everyone was asleep. Everyone but Kelly made it through the night fine....go figure the only one caged all night was the one with a problem. He was THE grumpiest bird in the world all day from the second I took him out of the carrier in the morning....oh well he will get over it!

Some pics of everyone handing out before lights out last night... Ryner and Rin (the cockatiels) slept on the square wooden perch you see Kelly sitting on. The green cheeks slept on the purple/blue boing and Loki the sun slept on the tall java tree. Once lights were out no one moved since it was so dark. I had my alarm set for early morning so I could be up to make sure no one was getting into trouble but since they tend to always be out downstairs they were doing what they always do down there.. Fly around and eat:rolleyes:

Wet perches drying off for the night. I didn't realize there was quite that many in all the cages!

And ta da...clean cages with new setups...

Oh and some before and afters of the cages so you can actually see the difference...I kept the same basic setups for Folger and Kelly since they are a little more picky about life.

Folger - The Freaky Cockatoo (and yes that is all he had left in his cage...he has been on a destruction streak!)

Kelly - The Grumpy Amazon

Monkey and Monster - The Green Cheek Bully Duo

Loki - The Fake Sun Conure

Rin and Ryner - The Girl Cockatiels

I forgot these! Bombarding everyone with pictures today:54:

I gave everyone baths and a grooming before stuffing them into their new setups. I didn't realize it before but everyone is flighted now. Loki and Kelly still have some flights to grow back in but everyone can fly these days!

Anyway wet birds:D
