Sneezing

Wanted a quick second opinion on something. My green cheek conure just recently (within about the last 20 minutes or so) had a bit of a sneezing attack followed by some wheezing. The wheezing was rather loud for a few minutes but seems to have gone away. Her eyes are completely clear, I haven't seen any nasal discharge, and her stool is still normal. I called the number for the closest emergency vet clinic but they weren't able to give me much advice other than get in right away. Unfortunately, it's quite a long way from my house and I don't have many options of getting there tonight. She seems to be acting perfectly normal and there have still been a few occasional sneezes but no more wheezing. Do you guys think it will be okay to wait until the morning when I am able to take her to her normal vet right by my house? Any input would be appreciated!

If you have a smaller travel or sleeping cage I would put her in that and keep her warm and with dimmer lights so she can nap if she wants to. Maybe by your bed or if you could sleep on the couch?

When Zilla was doing this a little over a year ago I slept in my recliner (if you could call it sleep) so I could keep a close eye on her and make sure she didn't get cold or need me in the middle of the night.

If she gets worse I would do whatever you could to get her to the emergency vet, but if she stays the same I think you might be OK to wait until morning.

Thank you so much for the advice! It's been a few hours since the incident and as of right now she seems to be just fine. Still has clear eyes and no nasal discharge. Her temperature feels normal and I even just saw her eating. I think just to be safe I'll take your advice and sleep near by tonight but since my vet opens in 8 hours I'm hoping I'll be good to wait until then!

I'm sorry your little one is sick. I hope it's nothing serious, please let us know how the vet visit goes.

I thought I would give you guys an update and it's actually pretty interesting! After the initial incident she seemed perfectly fine for the rest of the night (I kept a very close watch on her and barely slept) but I got her in to see my vet first thing this morning. Turns out she thinks my Georgia had an allergic reaction to wool because I was knitting last night with her on my shoulder when the incident happened. Crazy! I didn't even know birds could be allergic to something like wool but then again, I guess allergies are always kind of weird and unexplainable! But anyway, thank you guys for your concern of her health! Thankfully is wasn't something more serious and now that I know I will be able to control it so she hopefully doesn't have another reaction!

So glad to hear she is OK and you know what it was and how to keep it from happening again.

My Zilla reacts to dust the same way. I have to be super careful when I dust the shelves and entertainment center.

Birds do have delicate respiratory systems. Far more sensitive than ours. Things that bother us are more than likely even more bothersome to them. I use air purifiers in my apartment. I have allergies and asthma so I think those purifiers benefit all three of us.

Sneezing isn't a bad thing for birds. If there is a lot of discharge (or non-clear discharge) that's not a good sign, but just like us - they need to clear their nostrils as well. There has been a rare occasion that Skittles has sneezed and some clear discharge has come out but it doesn't re-occur. He mostly sneezes air.
