Hi guys, went to my local bird stores today.

And they have two yellow naped amazon for sales

The only difference that i notice is their size

The smaller size cost lesser and the bigger size is much more higher

Can i check with you guys why is that so?

Thanks.

Smaller YNA could be from poor nourishment as a baby. Depending on age /health they should 450 grams or more. If 400 grams or less i'd stay away from. There are two different main subspecies of YNA that are common in pet trade. A. o. auropalliata which is usually larger than A. o. parvipes which usually has a bit more yellow and smaller feet. healthy adults should at least 450 grams and auropalliata can weigh over 800 grams.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, i'm guessing that it should be a small subspecies. So in terms of talking abilities, they are still the same between different subspecies of yellow naped?

Yeah, i do know that not all parrot will talks. But just wanna find one of the best species that tend to talk more.

Thanks!

Both subspecies are better at talking/singing than most other species . Either of them would have a good chance of being a "talker".

I see, how about the double yellow headed amazon?

I guess i should have said any of the subspecies of Yellow Fronts would have a good chance of being a "talker". YNA and DYH are both subspecies of Yellow Fronts.

Alright, most prolly getting a DYHA tomorrow.

Just a question, the yellow coloring on DYHA's head will grow more when it age?

YES! My mom has had her DYH 40+ years, and comparing pictures of her as a younger bird to her now, it's a huge difference. However, the yellow spreads SLOWLY, over decades.

DYH's are lovely birds:) BIG too!

Ah, no wonder i see most of the young DYHA with little yellow patch on their heads while some have more.
