Sleep talking?

For awhile now I've noticed Lincoln will occasionally babble while he should be sleeping. Now I'm not 100% sure he's sleeping because it's dark and if I were to turn on the lights he'd immediately wake up so no way for me to know 100%

Is sleep talking normal in parrots or is this something I should be more concerned about?

I have a very bad sleep schedule (it's 6am right now and I haven't gotten a wink of sleep) so there's lots of time where I'll hear him 'sleep talk'. It doesn't happen too often but it happens enough that I thought I might ask.

I've heard my parrots babbling at various times during sleep time, but generally earlier in the evening. Don't think it is a problem as long as Lincoln gets enough sleep.

I liken it to a little kid that is winding herself down before sleep. Romeo does it all the time, Stephen a little bit.

Basically you've put him to bed but maybe he's not QUITE sleepy yet. So he's "talking" to himself and winding down. Someone mentioned it may be them practicing making the sounds necessary for vocalization.

Either way, I figure if they're not screaming and banging on their cage, and enough actual sleep is happening I don't worry about it.

Agreeing with above... the Rb does that... it's funny to me, and apparently harmless after all these years.

I have seen my Bingo do that as he is falling asleep. Eyes closed and kinda mumbling.

Tiki talks in his sleep all the time. Makes me feel sort of stupid when I spend a half an hour sitting and talking back to him while I'm doing stuff, only to look over and find him fast asleep. I know he is asleep, he'll have his head tucked back and everything. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, I mean people talk in their sleep, dogs will sometimes bark in their sleep, so I think it's a perfectly natural thing for them to do.

I've seen a lot of various animals dream and make sounds in their sleep. My younger cat will meow and twitch in his most active dreams. My dog sometimes has nightmares where he whimpers a lot (He was a rescue and has had a rough start) and my friend had an agility dog that would do agility in its dreams complete with sprinting and jumping motions (while lying down).

Wouldn't surprise me if birds did this as well with how smart they are

I was thinking of this thread this morning at five. Our dogs needed to go out, happened. Lot this week! Buzz the CAG is covered but his cage is near a window where the porch light is. Usually he does this sleepy coo when he hears the door or other noises. This morning I am opening the door and hear "GO!" A new word. As I open the door what automatically comes out of my mouth "go". At least I know where he got it but it also means even if he doesn't seem awake he is listening during the night.
