Sleep perch alternatives

Zulu's taken a tumble or two from his perch while sleeping, something I attribute to his young age and general clumsiness, but it did get me to wondering about an alternative sleep perch. After researching the available options, I have decided against a Happy Hut and its ilk, because I'm concerned that he'd chew his way into trouble. I can't see him using a corner shelf either as his tail is so gosh darn long and he tends to not like being on hard, flat surfaces.

All of my pondering got me to thinking about replicating an actual hammock, which I sort of thought might offer him the comforts of a nest (without actually being a nest!) and still be safe enough to leave in his cage unattended.

Construction wise, I was thinking I'd knit it out of hemp or maybe even jute (untreated, 100% natural). Before I even attempt to start, I was hoping people might chime in with thoughts/experiences on the matter.

I also really did like the sleep swing I came across.

Thoughts?

Does Zulu sleep on the same perch every night? If so try a grate platform perch and place it a couple inches underneath the perch. That way if she loses her balance she she has a safe close place to land :)

Thanks! I'd seen those but wasn't wholly sure it was something Zulu would use. Oddly enough, when Zulu sleeps he does so with his tail jutting straight up and his body angled down (kind of like a diver on a platform!). Not sure what to make of that!

Sounds like my CAG Neytiri. She sleeps leaning her head against the front of the cage. She occasionally falls when she slips... I haven't figured out how to prevent her from falling.

Zulu took another tumble... Think it might be night frights though to be honest I'm not sure. I've seen the ferret hammocks and want to do something like that, just with yarn. I haven't found a suitable yarn though and had planned to ask tonight for suggestions on what I should look for (name brands since I know I should use something that isn't treated with chemicals...ie: no mechanized cotton).

I could easily fab something out of fleece but I'm still concerned it's not wholly safe.

I'll gladly post pics once I do I come up with something.
