Sisial Rope

I purchased some sisal rope from Pacific Fiber and Rope company, as once recommended by Birdman. The sisal rope is confirmed to be untreated but it has a distinct odor. The owner of the company told me that it is the nature of the rope to have a dusting odor or smell. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it okay to use with my Mac and Grey? Thank you.
