Dusky Conure, "Wynnie" (RIP little Wynnie girl)
Two days before I found I was "inheriting" a dusky conure (first bird ever), we adopted a 10 week old rescue pup. This week was her first obedience class and she already knows sit, down, leave it, her name, and walks on a loose leash. The hardest one is down, of course. And it is only week one, but I am quite impressed that she is catching on so fast. Maybe she can teach my older dog a thing or two!

That's good she's learning fast. It's hard enough to have two new pets at the same time! What kind of dog?

@ RavensGryf: yeah, the first week was overwhelming--there was some other unusual stuff going on, and I was definitely in over my head! But, here we are a month later, puppy is potty trained (hallelujah!) and birdie is settling in nicely. We are waiting for the "wisdom panel" on the pup--she was rescued from a pretty rough area of Houston that has a lot of pet overpopulation issues. Right now, my money is on lab-pit-german shepherd combo, or maybe some chow. She is adorable, gets along great with our German Shepherd, and is just a sweetie pie. And although she was certainly curious about Wynnie, both dogs have exercised a lot of restraint.
And now, puppy has learned "leave it" which is one of the most important things one can teach a dog.

Wow so a BIG puppy! That's great that she's already housebroken. Isn't that quick? That's the biggest pain about having a puppy - having to house potty train ugh. I'd love to rescue a dog in the future, but a puppy might be a better bet to train one around birds. I don't know. I'm glad it's working out well with all the pets!
