Kiwi the Peach-Faced Lovebird
I was at the local store, Golden Cockatoo (As name suggest, specializes in parrots) to see my lovebird (whom is still being weaned) and I saw something sad: One of the finches were missing half of his/her feathers on the back of his/her skull! I'm pretty sure I could see some bone through the skin too. The rest were fine, though. I told one of the employees, who said the problem was he/she wasn't getting enough iodine in his/her diet. Not sure if that's the biggest lie since the cake or if he's telling the truth.

Hopefully he's right.

ha, don't you just love pet stores....sorry :(

some to most are not great on caring for birds, all they care about is selling them.

sounds like he's being pecked to death by the other birds, if he's alone it could be a number of things.

I too hate seeing that, and have rescued a few tragically cared for birds.
I sure hope he makes it, poor thing

Honestly, I know that most of the employees, apart for maybe one, love the birds. The owner himself, I'm not quite sure. But the employees take every bird out of it's cage, (Apart for finches and canaries, as they don't like to play) nearly every day, to interact, and pay special attention to the ones who act grumpy or antisocial. They put the friendlier parrots, including a giant Hyacinth Macaw and an Umbrella Cockatoo (Not to mention the dozens of amazons) on the Playstands so that customers can play or interact with them, and if the parrot only eats a specific kind of food (Like the picky African Grey who's always talking), they write that down.
All in all, at least it's better than...

PETSMART...

Well, I went to another employee and she said that the finch is a female, and it's most likely a combination of iodine deficiency and that the other birds are trying to mate with her. They then moved the finch to another cage.

SUCCESS.
