hello, so my 7 month old green cheek conure Fish, hasn't been as energetic, vocal, or active as he usually is as of lately. When I take him out he just sits with me, and doesn't run around like he used to. I feel like this should be a cause for concern. He has this little hideout where he goes to sleep for the night, and its almost midday and he is behind it, acting like he is ready to go to sleep. He has never done this before. I have tried to convince my family to take him to the vet just to get a general check up done, but they have refused.

Any time there's a change in behavior like that is cause for concern. Parrots are prey animals, and hide signs of illness or weakness as long as they possibly can. By the time they show symptoms, it could potentially be very bad. You know your bird. If you feel something is off, get him to your CAV. It's that important. Keep us posted please!

I’m so sorry your family does not appear to be on board with you regarding your conure’s health and well-being. I wonder if they’d feel differently if it was a pet dog or cat that needed medical attention? Somehow many people don’t feel the same imperative when it comes to birds and I’ve no idea why.

If the “little hideout where he goes to sleep for the night” is one of those fabric happy hut/snuggle buddy type things commonly sold at pet shops I would urge you to throw it in the bin immediately. Conures in particular LOVE those things but they can actually be deadly. So very many pet birds have either strangled themselves to death in loose threads or have died from chewing on and ingesting the synthetic fibres which build up in and block their gastro-intestinal tract. Not saying this is what’s happening with your bird but it’s best you toss his hideout for safety’s sake! He may grumble about it for a day or two but he really doesn’t need it to sleep in anyway.

I hope you’re able to convince your family to have your little buddy’s health checked out by a certified avian vet soon, please keep us updated. All the best to you both!

Thank you for letting me know about the hideout, i really appreciate it. I definitely keep you guys updated, he seems a little better now, but he is still being less vocal than ever. I am trying to convince my family to take him, and i hope they will. But other than that i have no further updates :)
