shyness?

I know it takes a while for birds to get comfy around people but I just wanted to ask..

Justine is super active when I am home or my parents. She comes up to either of us when we want to pick her up or move her from the cage to the table. But I just noticed something last night. My mom had two friends come over. Justine basically sat still while I was holding her and while she was on the cage. I have her a treat and she just held it in her beak and sat there for a few minutes. then slowly grabbed it and started to eat it..

besides picking her up and bringing her close to other people gradually. Any thoughts on activities for her if I want her to get to be comfy with my of my friends? Sometimes when a friend comes over she will put up her crest and run to the other side of the cage. Or sometimes she will flap her wings and scream.. Depends on the person I guess..

I think you're exactly on the right track...
Keep up with treats and exposure.
And yeah, parrots have preferences. For example, the Rickeybird hates everybody but me, but there are some people he hates worse than others!

My Ex Had a bird that they got from their grandmother years back. The bird would always talk when I was over at the house but when anyone but her mother goes close to the change the bird hides in the corner of the cage and if someone puts their hand in the cage, it will bite HARD..

I suppose it depends on how a bird was socialized when young. If they are accustomed to a small group of people they will be naturally suspicious.

our cockatoo is anything but shy I guess, Sammy acts like a spoiled child whenever friends stop by and think's it is his job to entertain everyone. is kinda cool having him by the front door because he says hello to everyone who comes in. now the Eclectus ,and Amazon are another story they don't like anything or anyone new, seem very shy

Being pretty new to bird-keeping I've found that I've had to adjust my thinking when considering "socializing" of animals.
I've always had dogs and to socialize dogs we take them for walks so they meet the neighbors, go to dog parks where they romp and run like crazy with everyone playing together.
Our first bird was a Budgie and we were pretty inexperienced but now that we have a Sun Conure and a U2 (bambam)on the way we've learnedthat although socialization is important, it's fundamental concept is different. The aviary I work with stresses socialization and encourages us to bring our Sun in any time we're coming to the shop so he can be around others and this summer we'll start walking him and BamBam(the U2) around the neighborhood, to the park etc. I've even thought if we go to eat and they have a patio we could take them but how open are people to seeing your bird at a restaurant? Any good or bad experiences?
I've been warned to avoid bird clubs or gatherings but we don't know a lot of people or have a lot of people through our house so it's hard to figure out where we can socialize them more.
Any suggestions on safe places?

I take Justine to Omars birds on the weekends just to be around other birds. Some people at the store she is ok with since she was there as a baby before I took her home. Sometimes does scream when I am there but only for a short few seconds then she is ok..Recently she started to say hello more often at the store to other birds..
