Shreding one feather

My cockatoo broke the tip of one feather on her wing yesturday. It was spliting so i trimed it back one inch(total of maybe 2 inches gone). Today she has been shreding the one feather. She was a plucker when i got her and after i got her she stopped. Should i worry that she might start on other feathers or do you think it will just be that one? Should i cut it back more or take her to the vet to have it removed? I can do it but can't stand to be the one to hurt her. I haven't ever had this problem before with her. Thanks

hummm tricky, if you haven't cut the feather to far back so as to cause her discomfort, i'd leave it to that, its most probably cause she knows that feathers different somehow?

i so understand the worry with pluckers and chewers

but i think it'll be more stressfull for a trip to the vets to remove the feather

Pull the feather out. I don't trim cockatoos because even handfed babies will shred the wings once they're clipped. I have fully feathered 'toos whose wings look aweful from being shredded. She'll shred that feather today, and then its likely she'll do the adjacent feathers when they get a little ruffled etc... She's not plucking then she likely won't, but wing shredding in 'toos is very common if their wings are clipped. It won't be too bad, just wrap her up in a towel and pull that wing feather out, if you don't then she will likely start working the rest of the wing, and it can take years to get all the feathers in and for her to stop.
