Showering with your bird

I've seen shower perches and heard others talk about showering with their birds. Is the soap not bad for them? What about water temperature?

When I shower with any of our birds I make sure that no soap gets on them, sometimes this means having to literally sit down in the shower to rinse my hair out  As far as temperature, I make the water slightly cooler than I would normally shower with when the birds join me, I usually just test the water on my wrist and make sure it is warm but so hot that it causes any kind of discomfort, if you can't leave your wrist directly under the spigot indefinitely without it becoming uncomfortably hot then you know it needs to be turned down. I also make sure to let everyone in the house know that I will be in the shower so they know not to run any water, our water heater is turned up VERY high at the moment, which I kind of like because it makes getting the correct temp water for handfeeding much easier, and if anyone runs water in the house while you're in the shower the water gets scalding hot. It's not something I usually worry about if I'm in there alone but I don't take the chance when I have a bird with me.

I make sure no soap gets on them. Ill move the perch before shampooing and conditioning my hair. The temperature, as Icy said, should be warm but not HOT. I usually take hot showers, Bleu likes the water at about my temperature, he'll get under and play in it if it's really warm. Lucy on the other hand prefers cooler temperatures. It's all still warm but... yeah I think you get the point haha cool-warm and hot-warm lol Bleu also has a rubber duckie he likes to beat up in the shower and Lucy is a fan of paper cups haha

I set the perch towards the back of the bathtub so no soap hits the bird. Then when it's his turn, I move the shower head. I'm also careful about the water temperature, but I don't like it too hot on my face or head either.

I have my perch under the water, but it's high up so that no soap drips or splashes on it. My conure likes to sit right next to the stream of water where he just gets a mist/spray. Sometimes he likes to stick his head under the water, if it's warm enough. He just sits there and becomes a total chatterbox. He loves the sound of water, showers are the highlight of his day!

I shower with Kazi. I keep the perch toward the back of the tub and turn it (it swivels) toward the back so he's even further away from the soap. I also prefer really hot showers, so after I'm done I turn the temp down to a bit warmer than lukewarm and hold the shower head (it's the kind on a hose) so it's pointing at the wall just next to his perch. He gets the spray from the wall and just loves it. He bobs and flaps and ducks his head around. When he's good and soaked he'll start looking at the shower curtain rod and I know he's done because he wants to go up there and shake off really well.

The Pionus sits on the shower rod & entertains himself when I shower.

I tried to talk PaulE the amazon into coming in the shower with me, but so far he has politely declined.

Yesterday I tried showering with the new green winged macaw.

I think I'm going to need a bigger shower.
