Should owner be concerned?

I am on vacation and the resort parrot has an area of ruffled feathers. I know nothing about birds. The bird is otherwise happy, bright eyes and acting normal. The staff here are going to consult the owner and of course will have him checked out by a vet. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to upload a picture here to see if this is normal feather molting from grooming. It is only on one side.

He SHOULD be seen by an AVIAN VET to determine if there is a medical cause for his feather mutilation. Thank you for caring

I spoke to the owner of the resort this morning and they are making arrangements for a vet checkup!

I would remove the Nesting Box in the attached cage. That could be causing either Parrot to be feather mutilating.

I agree with my Island friend above regarding a Vet visit.

FYI: Check the Food Bowl and see what they are feeding their Parrots.

There is an attached cage but the other two island parakeets cannot get into the Amazon's cage. The food bowl consists of some type of round, bird kibble. This bird has been here for 25 years and this is my first visit where I see a bit of this fraying area on one side only. Bird has clear eyes, no runny nose or other visual issues but I am glad they will see a bird specialists just in case. Sparrows and other smaller birds always coming in to eat their fruit, etc. I didn't know if this was just a seasonal or common issue with birds. Thanks you.

These sound like pellets. They're a staple for most captive parrots, though hopefully he gets lots of fruits and veggies too. Glad he is going to get checked out!

Yes, FRESH fruits and veggies EVERYDAY. Clean water always as well.

Wow, even looks like the cage is stainless steel, and it even has those rotating dish thingies so you don't have to worry about being attacked by birds when you give them fresh food. Does he get out of cage time? Man, they even have fresh newspapers, natural perches, and fresh foods! I'm actually impressed. The fact that they're going to take him to an avian vet...mind BLOWN. That is one clean cage. They definitely seem to care about the birds. A lot of places would've kept him in a small rusty cage, with a single dowel perch (if he was lucky), cheap seed, and fruit and veggie scraps. I know it sounds cynical, but most people couldn't properly care for a dandelion, let alone an animal.

Wow, you guys see that? They even have the cage against a wall, instead of putting right in the middle of the resort lobby or whatever. Anyways, thanks for caring, Tammy! Hopefully he's just going through a weird moult or something.

Yes, there are so many employees that care for these birds. She was found 25 years ago by side of the road. Owner LOVES this bird. The other cage are two parakeets from Aruba ... rescue as well. Owner is very responsible & caring.
