B&G Macaw
I currently have a CAG who I'm totally in love with. I'm pretty sure the feelings mutual. Now I have been approached from my buddy at the pet store that they are getting a blue gold macaw in an she believes I would be a perfect parent for this baby. It won't be ready until Xmas time but she said if I was interested that the baby is mine. My mind is reeling! I really love the IDEA of bringing home this bird but I want to make the right decision, not only for me but to my CAG and the new baby b&g. In short I'm home all day as I work for home. I have a daycare with an attached room for my birds that I can see into and go into and still see my daycare kids. The kids can also see and hear the birds but cannot touch them unless I bring them out into the other room. My actual home (living space is separate from this area so load noises don't really affect the rest of the house. I usually bring my CAG inside after daycare is over for a couple hours then bring him back in and feed him his dinner and put him to bed. So my questions to you are 1) do you think my CAG will be jealous? 2) are macaws more demanding than CAG and if so to what degree? 3) has anyone had this type of family and how did it work out? I'm pretty sure I'm going to bring the b&g home but I just wanted so advice from you guys first.

Your grey may be jealous, or might not care.

The B&G may be more demanding, but then again, maybe not.

It really depends on the birds themselves. Hopefully, some CAG/B&G owners can pop in and give further advice on their situations! All I can tell you is that each bird is different, so situations may vary.

I wanted to say though, that CAG's are considered dusty birds and may bother a B&G's respiratory system. Macaws, in general, can be sensitive to the dust of other birds, so it may help to make sure your CAG gets plenty of bathes, to spray the cage papers prior to cleaning them and possibly invest in a non-ionic air cleaner to help rid the air of extra feather dander.

Many owners are able to keep macaws with dusty birds without issues, but it doesn't hurt to take some extra precautions!

Thank you so much for your response! It's responses like yours that help teach me about things that I hadn't even considered. Thanks again.

Your CAG could possibly be jealous for a while, but I am sure he would get used to the Macaw eventually.

Macaws are in a totally different league altogether than Greys.. obviously they are more demanding and more destructive ! Let us know if you decide to get your Baby Macaw.. Have you any pics of him?

I don't have any pics yet, partly because I'm still trying to decide if I should even go there. I know if I see the baby it's over for me so I'm not going to even look until I'm sure. In all honesty I'm about 90% sure I'm going to get this baby, but I'm still trying to take my time with the final decision. I'm also reading and watching everything I can gt my hands on. As soon as I get a pic I will be sure to post. :)
