Should I think of ever buying this food products?

I go through a big tub of nutriberries every month. That's a staple treat around here.

The bean and pasta thing is way cheaper to do on your own. That stuff is cheap at the grocery store, and you pretty much cook it for the people in your home anyway. Make a little extra for the birds...

I used to feed the 15 bean soup mixes, but I've since chosen to feed healthier legumes now.

The last batch of food I made consists of the following items (if I remember everything I put into it!)

Barley
Buckwheat
Millet
Oat Groats
Quinoa
Red Quinoa
Mung Beans
French Lentils
Orange Lentils

(cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes for seasoning in the grains)

Kale
Broccoli
Carrots
Zucchini
Pumpkin
Jalapeno Peppers
Cilantro
Small Sweet Bell Peppers (red and orange/yellow)
Blueberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
Pomegranate

It was a huge batch!!!! I used 2 cups of the mixed legumes, 4 cups of the mixed grains, 2 mini pumpkins, 7 carrots, 3 broccoli heads, 1 bunch of cilantro, 1 bunch of kale, 2 zucchini (I think?), 3 jalapeno peppers, around 8 of the bell peppers (they were small...), a small box of blueberries, almost a full box of the blackberries and strawberries (regular size? well, maybe half the amount of strawberries!), and 2 boxes of pomegranate kernels.

For the most part, the flock seems to be enjoying it, although I've made it differently than previous times... then again, I don't know if I can ever make it the same way each time! LOL I'm always using different ingredients each time I make it. Some items will always be in there, others are more seasonal or whatever I just end up picking up from the store!

nutriberries, nuts of all types (mostly almonds) and beans with veggies are a huge staple around here. To tell the truth I do not cook with salt and as long as dinner is bird safe, its what every one is getting.

Thanks Monica for the recipe advice. Do you cook your lentils and mung beans together? I would like to add a cook variety than just cook up 15 bean soup. The breeder I bought Captain Jack from feeds her birds 15 bean soup and mixes veggies etc in it. So far I mix veggies into my beans. I am thinking of adding a healthy past mix in. I am still building up my skill on making mixes. :54:

What skill? I just chop everything up and toss it together! :D LOL

The lentils and mung beans cook differently. Mungs must be pre-soaked where-as lentils don't have to be. There is the quick-soak method (which I've never used) as well as the overnight method.

Lentils cook within 15-25 mins where-as mungs can take 30-60 minutes. I generally cook them separately, but if there's enough water, you could easily throw the lentils in when the mungs are half way cooked.

I haven't taken any photos of many of the mixes I've made, but I decided to with this last batch.... and the photos are still on my phone... I should get around to uploading them! :D
