We had to get some stuff at Lowes today, so we put Chewbaca on a perch in a shopping cart, and Greybeard rode on wifey's shoulder.

One couple told us they are getting a Hahn's Macaw from a rescue.

A family told us about the neighbor across the street who has loud mouthed parrots that learned words from some construction workers nearby.

The wife of a couple went back to their car and brought in their 3 yo male CAG in a backpack. The had just returned from a hike on the beach with him.

It took some extra time to shop, but worth it.

How fun! That's so cool hearing how people take their birds to places other than the vet's. I can't even imagine doing that with my birds. Are they clipped or on harnesses?

That's cool! I haven't tried taking my bird to a crowded place like Lowes, just the park and the quiet neighborhood. It would be nice not to have to leave him when I have to run to the store. How do you deal with potty time?

Love positive things like this, I'd take ReaRea but she ain't keen on strangers.

That's so cool that you spend that time with your birds!
I don't do it because I'm scared of my fids getting a disease, I'm just parinoid I guess.:p

How do you know whether stores are ok with birds or not? Do you ask or is there a handy list somewhere?

It is amazing how birds can bring people together.
What a wonderful way to make new birdie friends.

Yes, Mare, their fright feathers are trimmed. They know when they are able to fly, so we take them in about every six weeks. No harness.

"How do you deal with potty time?"

We carry tissues in a pocket. This trip we took Greybeard off wifey's shoulder about every 20 minutes and put him on the shortened PortaPerch, which has a stack of coated paper plates on its base. The top plate can be wiped off, or removed.

Wifey spends a lot of time in the garden area if chemical odors aren't detectable.

As for where to go, sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness than ask permission. I got kicked out of a Starbucks once. Outdoor cafes are a natural.

portaperch, I love, love, love to hear your stories and see your pictures of taking your birds places. Ok, not sure if I should be pm'ing this so if I am in the wrong I'm going to ask "foregiveness" do you sell the perches? If so should we pm you about them?

I love taking Kazi with me places. He went with us to take pictures today, in fact, and one family out taking in the scenery were just fascinated with him. I wish he were more friendly to strangers, but he goes with me every two weeks to Petco to get cat food (and probably a bird toy!) and it takes me at least 30 minutes to do what used to take 10 :D But Kazi needs to be socialized so that's what we're doing. I try to make sure he meets someone new at least once a week. I know he likes car rides and he is getting to where he'll speak to strangers in Petco. He used to ride silently along with his wings out and his tail flared, but now he rides and chatters a lot. New employees who don't know I bring him always say, "I couldn't figure out who you were talking to and who was talking back!"

I also love hearing these stories :). How fun is it to meet new birdie people !
You just never know who your going to meet at Lowes , lolol.
You just might hear Baby wants yum yums , lolol , or Yoshi Poshi's mommys boy :) :) :)

lizardsmells how do you deal with the poop when you are at the pet store? This is the only question I have. I see how portaperch does it and I think it is awesome. However without that perch do you have a flight suit?

I took Jerry almost to my everyday places. My wife took the video

For poop matters, I just took her down on the ground every 20 minutes and she would go :)
