Loki (GCC) Sugar (Goffins)
I woke up this morning knowing I was bringing Sugar home today. I cleaned the Pak-O-Bird from Loki's usage yesterday, made sure her cage was ready, did some other things and finally was on the road a little before 10. By 11, I had food, her packed up, paid for and in the car! It's just after 12 now, and she's in her cage, eating. She danced in the carrier the whole way here, not a single noise :20: I know she's capable of noises, she's screeched in my ear enough times! So I'm giving her some time to settle in.

Sorry, I'm super excited and just had to share. I've been waiting 5 weeks to bring her home! Pictures to follow later, I don't want to over excite or over stimulate her.

Congrats, you must be so excited, cant wait for pics!

Thank you everyone!

I'm thrilled and trying really really really hard not to spoil her/freak her out/etc. I know the rule of thumb is "20%", so I've been downstairs doing things and she's screeched a couple of times because she hears me, but I know if I give in now, it'll just teach her that screaming is how you get me to come. NO GOOD!! So I'm busying myself with housework and making Bird Muffins. YUM!! (for them, gross for us!)

YAY !!!! Welcome home Sugar :)
Can't wait to see pictures of Sugar in her forever home :)

I am over the moon!!! Thank you everyone. I've got pictures to upload in a bit, and obviously more to come in the future ;) She's already very comfortable, she's making sounds, she's out of her cage because she wants to be and enjoying some family time. She's definitely a bit skittish due to the new environment, but I think the fact that we would go in and spend hours with her several times a week (no exaggeration either, I never spent less than an hour and a half and the longest was 3 hours and only because it was a store and not a lot of places to sit and interact) has helped in the transition immensely. I am really thrilled to have her!!

Oh and Sadie, I see you finally named your new baby!! I love the name, Scout is very cute ;)

Yes :D She's a Goffin, only 10 months but her previous owners brought her in (a store where they do consignments and handfed babies, as well as boarding and supplies and i LOVE them!) back mid-March. Apparently they never structured her time and she was never in her cage, always out on shoulders and with the family. And then they had a baby....

Apparently she screamed quite a bit to the point where they decided to find her a new home and took her there (so far, no evidence unless they had absolutely NO tolerance, my GCC I think has a louder scream). It took us a week to decide and when we went in to discuss taking her, someone else expressed interest. We had already lost a 9yo Moluccan the same way and so I took the owner aside and said "I want her" and she agreed to work with us. It took 5 weeks to pay her off, ensure we had everything we needed and be ready to bring her home. And in that time, I went no less than three days a week, often more, and spent no less than an hour and a half, often up to 3 hours, just hanging out, talking to her, playing with her, handling her while talking to other customers (many regulars that I got to know) and the owners.

I really need to thank MollyGreenCheek for telling us about that place!! If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have Sugar today! So thanks Tracy :D
