Shaky stance/walking

Hi guys, My parents bought a yellow crowned amazon a few months ago. She seems healthy, although her personality could be better.

Anyways, she's I think around 6-7 months old. But she seems to be weak in her legs. She is shaky on some perches. She is a slow walker and has a little trouble keeping balance. And generally I feel like she doesn't have much grip strength. For example, when she does her feather dustoff shake she can lose balance.

She has been like this since we got her. Although she has gotten alot better, I feel like by this point she should be walking and gripping normally. She doesn't show symptoms of illness. She doesn't show symptoms of a foot injury; ex. keeping one foot up.

Is this because of her young age? Or could there be an underlying issue causing this?

We used to have a blue crowned amazon, and he was normal in this regard. This is why I find this abnormal.

I think you're right to be concerned. I would make an appointment with an avian vet for a thorough exam.

I'd be concerned as well. If you don't mind me asking, what sizes are your perches?
Some Amazons don't do well with smaller perches. I realize you had an amazon in past and are fimiliar with that. However I have a BFA that can walk any perch, but a rescued BFA not much younger (5) couldn't walk the same perch without nearly falling off. Point is not all birds are the same and learn balance from different perches and get sorta acustom to a particular style.

How are her nails? The vet trimmed Paco's too short once. They didn't bleed or anything but when we got home I noticed a similar thing. Once they grew out a little, he was fine again. I keep them on the longer side now, never saw this since.

Her perches are fine. They range from half an inch to 2 1/2 inches. In fact, we have this medium play platform with a nice perch and a super thin metal pole at the top to hang toys from. She prefers sitting on the top one which is crazy. Because I mean, it's incredibly thin. Like 5mm diameter. And the perches she uses were used previously by our other amazon. So I know they're not the issue. Her nails are good, they were trimmed when we brought her.

However this is a good point. Because I too noticed this with our green cheek. I cut his a bit short once (no bleeding thank god). But saw that he too had trouble keeping balance. Especially on some clothing. But I don't know. It would kind of make sense because like I said that she has improved since we got her.

I'm gonna take her to a vet anyways. Just curious if anybody else has ever come across this with their Amazons.
