Pacific Parrotlet (Kiwi) and a Pineapple Conure (Widget)
Is there any way to sex a pineapple green cheek conure besides taking it to the vet for DNA testing? It's not really that important, but if there's a way I could easily find out at home, that would be pretty cool. I gave him (or her?) a gender neutral name, just in case. :D:D I can't find anything on the internet about it, and I know that pineapple is a pretty recent mutation. Could I go about it the same way as you would a GCC?

Any advice is appreciated! My neighbor is convinced it's a girl and I think it's a boy, and I'd like to know for sure. :p

avianbiotech.com you can request a kit and send in either plucked feathers or a drop of blood. It only cost $20 to $25 and the results are quick

Well, I was going to do Pete using Avian Biotech's kits, but my vet told me last week they no longer use them for any lab work because they have made a lot of mistakes. Now I'm not telling you that is gospel, but I thought I would pass that along.

You might want to ask your vet for an opinion. Otherwise short of DNA there is no good way to know except for wait for the bird to reach sexual maturity and see if it acts like a boy or girl. Pete is now doing boy things so I probably won't bother to have another lab test him.
