Severe Macaw?

Hi!

I would love some first hand opinions on severe macaws, I'm thinking about getting a baby. I do have bird experience and recently posted my story in the cockatoo poriton of this site. I am not trying to make my decision between a goffin cockatoo, severe macaw, and CAG. I know all three are wildly different, but I'm trying to make a good decision on a bird I can have around with me whenever possible.

I don't have a MAC but I do have a CAG. My CAG is a very jumpy bird and does not like new things. I cant take her anywhere without putting her through a lot of stress.

From what I have read on the form my experience with my CAG is not unique.
So it's just my .02 cents worth but I think a CAG wound not work for a bird you take with you.

I don't have the other bids you mention but my amazons are much more laid back as far as going out with me. they love going out with me. Both amazons are happy to ride my shoulder for extended periods of time without complaint.

Severed you'll hear are not always he greatest. They have severe (pun...accurate) overbonding issues making them notorious one person birds. I hope mark chimes in here. Hell have a great tidbit or ten about this species.

I hope he chimes in too haha. Really struggling deciding between the three... I want something that bonds closely (closest) to me, but still allows other people to hold it. As well as being 'affectionate' towards me. Willing to sit with me while I work, allowing scritches, wanting to be near me

Friend you're living in a fantasy world. Every bird is an individual. I had the same expectations, so has most newbies coming through.

I got around t by playing the genetic odds. Training helps, but overcoming one-personness...you're fighting nature, a losing proposition. Birds most known for picking a favorite but flexible with others. That would be male eclectus. They are polyamorous, so don't form bonds intensely like macaws do. Doesn't mean they don't pick a favorite by they are more likely than other species to accept handling by strangers.

But gain every bird is unique. My boy always accepts strangers. Though his favoritism has flipped. I was always the favorite, but the last couple moths he's transferred that bond to my partner and, as the disciplinarian and trainer, I've lost a lot of obedience as a result.

If you want a real good personable first bird a goffin so cockatoo would be better than those you named. They are very cuddly birds wonderful personalities.

I did reference that I posted in the cockatoo portion of this site in my original post. Cockatoo's are much more emotional, which I like but in that post I was warned against. Now I am just exploring my options with other birds. I am trying to do my fair research before going out and buying something. I don't see anything wrong with that?

And of course there are arguments against getting parrots in many peoples case, I know what I am able to handle. I am asking about peoples experiences with diiferent bird species.

The queries with you going out and getting a bird per se are not your credentials you sound ideal but your life now and your dog are points of concern. Cockatoo or Macaw the same queries apply. If you are busy studying/learning would you be able to cope with the needs of the dog and the needs of a parrot? These are not small things to gloss over IMO. If you can muster some patience and wait till life is more settled I personally think you will reap the rewards.

So in a nutshell wait until the coaching is done. You will not be able to have the Doberman wandering freely around with a parrot out, honestly. How will your 'pup' like being shut away whilst you consort with the enemy? She may take it that way? She has had only you and all your attention and will have to share. A baby parrot will need a lot of time. Agreed a parrot, harness trained or in a birdie back pack going for walks with you and your 'pup' sounds ideal if she isnt jumping up trying to eat the parrot and the parrot isnt scared stiff of the dog?

As you say you are living with parents how will they cope with having a parrot in the house? Are they willing to chuck out anything and everything that has a whisper of Teflon in or on it? Getting other people to comply with do's and don'ts is a lot harder than just applying to yourself. Remember you are living in their house.

My severe only likes me. He will put out his wings attempting to intimidate my partner if he comes near me he's extremely bonded to me and an one person bird. Several severed I've been around were also the same way . He has even flown at my partner and bit him in the neck

You should buy some budgies.

Yes it is super sweet with me. At the rescue he would fly at the volunteers necks as well. They were super surprised how he reacted to me and stepped right up for me . He's been great to me has not even attempted to bite me once but everyone else better watch out. Wouldn't trade him for the world though.
