2 weeks until my new family member arrives and I need to know if a secondary cage is necessary for overnight? If so, should it be in a second room? The primary cage is huge and will be difficult to fully cover. My house is pretty small and there are no children. Any info would be much obliged.

I think a second cage is pretty important but not essential. Other than for sleeping, there are good uses. You can stash him in #2 when you are both in another room and need to make him safe. You can bring it when you travel so he can sleep in something familar. You can use it when you're deep cleaning his #1 cage
