Seed Mixes

Hi, I was wandering if anyone had a seed only mix that they reccomend for parrots.
Before you start yelling at the screen saying "No! Thats terrible for your bird!" let me explain. I'm converting my cockatiel over onto pellets as well as finishing the conversion of my budgies.
I'm using the method where you place the pellets and seeds in a bowl, add a little bit of warm water, mix and serve, while slowly decreasing the amount of water and seeds in the mix every week. This has worked for my budgies and i have almost no seeds mixed with the pellets now which is great because I honestly though that they'd be picky and not eat the pellets right away.
Anyways, I'm out of the seed mix I usually use. I can't remember exactly which one it is but I think it was by Kaytee. At the time the Kaytee brand was the only one I could find that contained only seeds and no pellets. Now, I've finished the 2lb bag of seeds and I'm looking for a better brand. I'm hoping to find something not as processed and healthier for them despite the fact that they are seeds. I have thought of making my own seed mix but for what I am using the seeds for I'm not sure that it is worth it because they are eating the pellets with it as well so, I'd prefer not making my own. Are there any brands that anyone could recommend? Something better than kaytee and maybe not as processed?

my birds are happy and healthy eating a diet of a nutritious seed mix as well as vegetables and fruit. The seed mixes I use for my budgies and cockatiel are from a company called Versele-Laga (Premium Prestige). Both mixes contain a balance of seed and lots of tiny pellets (which to me is ideal for birdies that aren’t so keen on larger ones). This is a quality brand - and if you are looking for a seed mix to add into your pellets, I highly recommend it! Hopefully it is available in your region.

I also feed a lot of sprouted seeds. ABBA seed soak!

I think I'm more concerned about the fact that you don't want to feed seeds at all as compared to finding a seed only mix out there.

For the little species, pellets are *really* hard on them! As an all seed diet could lead to malnutrition, obesity and liver failure, an all pelleted diet could lead to kidney failure or gout. Even my avian vet recommends 50/50 seeds to pellets ratio, with as much fresh foods as you can get them to eat.


I have Kaylor of Colorado Sweet Harvest and Golden Gourmet (designed to be similar to Goldenfeast) on hand for seeds, although right now I'm using sprouts from China Prairie for the seeds.
