Seamus -GCC
So it's officially been 1 whole week since Seamus decided to drop into my life.

For those of you that don't know his story, he was found about 2 weeks ago by some children at a playground after he flew down to interact with them. The teacher of those kids brought him into the local vet and they got him rehydrated and healthy while doing some digging for the owners that could have lost him and found that an older gentleman that lived behind the playground had passed away and he had a flock of birds in his home. Well the story goes that those who came into possession of his belongings decided to just release all the birds instead of finding them proper homes. Sigh. That's backwoods Mississippi for you though, Ha. Anyways, that is how Seamus came to me.

And can I say he is such a strange... but very very sweet little bird... And I adore him. :) He is quite the cuddle bug, he literally just plops into your hand or leans against you to the point of him falling over if you move too quickly. He loves to preen me and himself...overly... :/ When I got him, the vet mentioned to me that his tail was shredded and she wasn't sure if something got a hold of him or if his cage was too small. Well looking at it I had my suspicions and they came to be true one day when I saw him using his broken tail feathers to scratch his face... Not really sure what to do about that yet. But yeah... He also found his voice after a couple days as well. Haha. Mostly he just quacks and chirps, but if I leave (but not if Corbin leaves, sorry dear...) or if I do something that seems dangerous (like approach the rabbit cage) he goes nuts. I relate it to a car alarm or fire engine siren. I just reassure him with my own pathetic quacks and then when he settles down I come back. He is also easily excited by the TV... any action scene (or baby crying) and he feels a necessity to join in. Ha.

But overall we're on a good path. He eats well, I need to go to the grocery store and get more veggies and fruit for him to try (yay for me eating healthy again too!) and I'm gonna set up a vet appt. this week with the Avian vet in town and get a thorough check-up and maybe DNA sex him just to know (my last Fid spent 14 years of her life as boy until she laid an egg to prove to me she was a girl, ha). I'm hoping he can also give me a better age estimate as well. I dislike not knowing how old he is... AND I dislike being away from him right now. I had an already planned trip out to Houston to visit my parents and I'm just super sad that I had to leave him at home (I would have brought him if it wasn't $250 dollars to fly him there and back with me, and that's just money I don't have). I know Corbin's there, but he works 2-11pm both days I'm gone.
But I wrangled my best friend into coming over during that time to love on him for a while. So hopefully all will be well... and he won't have forgotten me when I get home. Fingers crossed.

But anyways onto PHOTOS!

Here he is enjoying a good 'ol hand cuddle with Corbin.

This is how we like to sit sometimes, who needs both feet afterall?

And using his tail feathers to scratch his face...

I love the tail feathers to scratch his face... okay I know its ratting out his tail feathers, but just too funny... Give him a fleece preening toy and something to use for his face scratching. Have you been bathing or misting him regularly, he might just have some itchy going on that a regular bath will help with!

He will make it thru your visit to see your parents :) Just make sure he has lots of toys available for Corbin and your friend to swap out to keep him busy while you are away. He won't forget you, Victoria was gone for months last summer for Semester at Sea and he birds were well taken care of, but very happy to see her return :) If anything, little Monkey (pineapple GCC) has bonded to her even more since the return!

He looks so happy and content with you, was a wonderful surprise addition. So happy you went to meet him!!

I agree, the scratching with his tail feathers is way too cute and funny! He's adorable, and it looks like he's found an amazing home. :)

Does Seamus have a leg band on? That's how we found out our PB's age.

Oh I quite agree with both you on the adorableness of his face scratching. I've been trying to catch a video of it so I could post it on here because its just too funny. Thanks for the advice Jen, could probably mist/bath him more... maybe... he LOVES his baths, goes full on crazy bird in water. Haha. And will look into the some good toys for his silly habit.

And I hope our bond is stronger, just was nervous sense I left after only having him for a week. But I'll be sure to let you know when I get back on Sunday.

Does Seamus have a leg band on? That's how we found out our PB's age.

And he does, it says just 2485... I truly hopes he's not a really old, really well kept Conure at 29 years old. But maybe someone else can enlighten me.

Is there an organization abbreviation for where the band was issued from, like AFA? Then you can contact them and give them that ID number to get any information they have about the bird.

Now that's what I call and honest to goodness rescue. What a lucky bird to have found help! Your story made my day!

No. It's just has those numbers on it. That's all unfortunately.

I agree with everyone about how adorable Seamus is :) and what an amazing story about HOW he came to be with you! What luck! I wonder how many other birds were in that home, and sad to think what happened to them. Raptor food.
Good to hear how well Seamus and you are doing!

Ohmygoodness what an adorable little guy Seamus is!!! And that feather scratching is too funny lol

It's sad that his whole flock got set loose :( Seamus is very lucky he found his way to you!!!

Supposedly he had quite a few parrots of different species, as well as two birds of prey. But that's supposedly. Maybe he was falconer? Not sure. You know how tales get told and grow though.

But thank you all. :) I feel so blessed to have this little booger in my life now. <3

That's a bummer. :(

But maybe they say true love defies age for a reason. :D

What a sweetie! I'm so glad he found you. If he was friendly enough to fly down to interact with kids, he was obviously very loved and well socialized. Shame on those people who just released the birds without *thinking* about the implications for the birds and native wildlife.
