Screaming cockatoo

Hello! We have a yellow crested cockatoo who is about 2.5 years old. He's generally friendly but he screams when he's in the cage. We let him out frequently and the kids play with him a lot but if he's in the cage he screams and it's extremely annoying. Any advice?

One technique I've heard that works is if you're in the room while he's screaming, leave it. Only come in when he's quiet. You may have to wait as long as 1/2 a hr for him to stop screaming , but as soon as he starts screaming, leave the room. He's to learn that quiet equals attention and noise means he gets left alone.
