RIP. Baby Budgie Bird :'(
It's hard to believe that Scooter is going to be 5 this year! The little splay-legged bird that was never suppose to live past 3 months has proven every single site I've read wrong! We've been through a lot together, she was my first parrot. I had never hand fed a baby before, I was so scared that I was going to do it wrong or I'd have to hand feed her forever because she'd never eat on her own. But she did! She's done everything that some people said she'd never be able to do. She can climb, fly, land on pretty much anything and lay eggs with no issues at all :D I'm so proud of this little bird! <3

Awww, what great news about Scooter!
What a precious girl she is:)
It warms my heart how you saved her, and gave her such a wonderful life. Doesn't sound like the splayed legs hold her back at all!

Congrats to you and your girl. This is a great achievement for you both and a testiment proving how perservierence pays off!!!!

Awww, Scooter is precious! Her album speaks volumes, I'm so glad this little one found you. Thanks for the lovely update, it really made me smile!

You're welcome everyone! Thank you all for your kind words :) Scooter is an amazing little bird!

It must have been so scary for you,i went trough the same thing but was thankfully able to correct it.
Too be able to pull trough without giving up takes a lot.
I wish you 2 a long and happy life.

So happy she's doing well!!

For those faced with a splay-legged Lovie baby, we were able to cure it in the two we had (before they fledged) by making little hobbles (loose enough they could still walk, but snug enough so their legs couldn't splay out) using that stretchy, sticks-to-itself veterinary tape. Kind of looked like birdie handcuffs!

After a few days, splay was gone, and both birds ended up with normal legs & function. In both cases, their legs went straight out to the sides before the hobbling, and standing was impossible.

By the time I got her I was told it was too late to correct her legs without surgery. So I decided to just make her as comfortable as possible with her legs. I'm glad you were able to correct your babies :)
