While you are in school, I would feed them around 6 a.m., whatever you give them for breakfast whether it is fresh food, veggies, bread or pellets. They should be fine while you are gone and since you get home around 3 p.m., that would be the perfect time to take them out and interact with them offering them their favorite treats. If you feed them pellets, seeds or whatever, make sure you leave some in their cage at all times as my conures will wake up from a nap and immediately go looking in their food bowls for a snack. I've also witnessed them doing this late at night and very early in the morning. I cannot stand the thought of them being hungry so every day I put a fresh scoop of their food in their cups so they have something available whenever needed.
Once you are out of school you should be able to easily adapt their schedule to yours even if that means feeding them a little later in the mornings, as long as they have something in their cage.
My birds have all had to adapt to my schedule at some point. Sometimes they are fed breakfast early in the morning and at other times, I have fed them later. I always give them a midafternoon snack of toast, beans, pasta or rice.
They aren't in my living room, but my bird room is in close proximity of my living room. Even with the TV on, they sleep and I do not cover their cages, but I do turn out all lights and close their door. I'm sure they can hear the noise in the other room, but it doesn't appear to bother them. On the rare occasion I've had to go in their room after lights out, I get fussed at by very sleepy birds.
