Sasil Rope Safety

I read that Sasil rope is safe for birds and that several people had picked it up at Home Depot or places like that. I Picked up several thicknesses, but when I opened the one it smelled like gasoline or kerosene or something petrol-like. My wife sniffed it and agreed. Should sasil rope smell like that? Does Sasil rope have a particular odor? Does anyone have a place they get things like rope that is safe (either on-line or on the eastern coast of U.S.?)

I have a sissel rope in my birds cage but it is made for birds and not from home depot or other place like that. If you smell a chemical it would be best not to use it.

I agree with SB. I've gotten Sisel from home improvement stores with no problem, but we checked each roll before we bought it. Can you return it? You may have better luck at a craft store or something like that if you can't find any at a pet/bird store.

I agree better safe than sorry. Is it suppose to have some kind of smell? I don't want to keep buying bundles of rope and finding they all smell bec it's supposed to smell. Also, not surprisingly, the label on mine says it's from China. Are there places where it is better or not better to find this rope is from? Thanks everyone for their input.
