Hi all! I started clicker training my nanday conure Jade a few months ago and it has been going great! I recently rescued a red crowned amazon (aka Mexican red headed amazon aka green cheek amazon) and would like to start training her. If both birds live in the same room, will they be confused if I use the same bridge (the clicker) or should I come up with a new sound to bridge for Henry (the amazon)?

My partner also is really interested in trying the model/rivel method now that he read Alex and Me. Is it OK to mix two training methods with one bird?

The best thing is to figure out what works best for your bird. Clicker training can actually be used without the clicker, because you are still using the same training techniques - that of positive interactions.

You could use the model/rivel method with your amazon using Jade as the teacher! Monkey see, monkey do! aka it's possible for Henry to pick up on behaviors from Jade. Try training Henry the same way you trained Jade and see how it works!

Thanks! Jade has actually been really helpful in training Henry because when Henry throws a tantrum, I walk over to calm Jade and start praising her. Jade also enjoys bathing in the sink, and Henry is scared of the sink, so I've been having Henry sit on my shoulder and watch Jade take a bath. Making slow progress but progress still! Who knew cranky old Jade would be such a good influence on a new bird?
