Salmonella and pet birds

Do pet birds naturally carry salmonella or do they need to be exposed and do they get I'll from it or just carry it.

They are susceptible but they have to be exposed. A bird that has been exposed may or may not become ill (especially wild birds) but they can pass it on if they have it. It isn't naturally hanging out inside of them, but like COVID you can have symptomatic or asymptomatic transmission after exposure...so you can have carriers, but they aren't born that way (they get infected at some point via exposure).
