Safira (B&G Macaw)~~ Gracie (CAG) ~ Lucy (CAG)
I realize I haven't done an update on my Macaw in ages!!!

She is now 1 year old, her hatch date was about two weeks ago.

The nightfrights are still an ongoing problem. If I don't cover her 100%, she will wake you up at 3am with a scream of bloody murder. But if she's covered, she will sleep through the night.

SHE TALKS!!!!! She now will greet me with an upbeat "Hi!!" That sounds just like me, lol. She tries to say hello, and she is trying to laugh. I'm trying to get her to say "Hi" on command, its a work in progress. One day I will have video.. one day.

It's amazing to watch her mature. I've only ever dealt with adult birds, so her baby behavior was always a little baffling. Now I see her starting to get some 'big bird' behavior in the way she looks at me, and her movements.

She's horribly scruffy. She is finishing up one of her first molts, and broke ALL her NEW tailfeathers. I was so excited to see them (she broke them months ago with her night-frights.) But she broke them again.. I'm just going to have to live with the fact she won't have a tail for awhile. :)

Anyway, here is a picture!! Oh and her pupils are starting to get a little smaller, enough that I notice. :D I will never again get a baby bird.. this is why I don't have children, ha.

I'll update on my CAG's when I get better pictures of them.

Aw poor girl! All three of my older clutch look like her because they are going through their first moult too.

Could you maybe put towels or blankets on the bottom of the cage at night to prevent injury?

Happy belated b-day Safira!!!

Have you tried leaving on a night light for her?

Yes Mikey.

A nightlight. A blue light.. No lights.

She likes it dark. I think headlights hitting the window is what startles her sometimes

But she does it in broad daylight to. She'll be taking a nap and for no reason will scream and hit the floor of her cage.

But it's not as bad as it was. It was nightly, now it's only if I don't cover her right.

I guess your only option is to keep her covered at night. Mine hates to be covered ....

We cover Mac at night. We started it when we first got him at 10 weeks and it continues today.

He sleeps through the night.

As MikeyTN mentioned, might be best to use a cover at night!

Happy belated Hatch Day Safira!!

She is a very pretty girl and will be your baby for a long time to come. Shame about her tail but nice thing it comes back. Thanks for updates.

I cover Roscoe up. He likes the dark. He has some tail feathers. He turn one June 3. You have any more pics. Pretty bird you have there.
