Hi all. I was wondering whether members here can give me their opinion on whether you think this water hycinth/seagrass hut is safe or not and if if think it could trigger aggression since it doesn't touch their wings (completely envelope them)? Thx

Absolutely. I was hoping to get more opinions and thought i would include my own photos of how "I" hung it because some of the comments were that the "rope" to hang it from the top would pose a hazard and I modified it. And I was hoping to show that this item has absolutely no threads.

The way you have it hung I think you're fine. The one thing I would be careful with is if your bird starts to become aggressive due to the alleged hormonal changes due to these huts.

A question about hormones then... If I have the hut in his/her cage and Tiki doesn't become aggressive until months later, I can remove it and s/he will stop the aggression, right? I have searched this forum and this is the impression I am getting.

You're over thinking it. It should be fine.

IF there are bad behaviors, you can modify them. IF NOT why worry about it?

This is a non-issue in my opinion.

Yes I agree with above. We don't know what would trigger hormonal aggression in our birds. For example, I have a wooden tunnel hanging on the ceiling of my sun conure's cage similar to how you set up your sea grass mat. It never triggered his hormonal aggression and he's had it there for over a year. What did trigger it though is me leaving a roll of toilet paper for him to shred. He really got into it, and I thought it was fun and games. Within a month of having it in the cage, I witnessed a string of the worst hormonal frenzies ever - and Boomer is usually manageable in this regard. I took it out and I noticed a difference. Took me a while to realize it though. My vet agreed and said the obsessive shredding he did to the toilet paper rolls triggered nesting behavior.

Should be okay - I had a very similar one made of straw for my lovebird, and although she absolutely loved to sit in it she also loved to chew it very much. :) So some of the remnants are still hanging in her cage as a toy. :) This thing won't last long. :)
