Buster turquoisegrey IRN male, Piper buttercup IRN female. 2 Budgies who will soon be relocating to my brothers home.
So saturday morning early I came from spar and noticed a pigeon sitting right up against the wall of the building. I went closer and it fluttered to the street 2 cars almost ran it over, so I put my shopping down and went and got it. Got home and put it in a cage with some food and water. Seems a cat got hold of the poor bird and it was missing a foot and had a deepish injury around the vent. Poor baby bled on me. The pigeon climbed into the water bowl mabey to. Try soothe the pain? Anyhow, I could not find a number for our wild bird rescue and rehabilitation centre, and no adress either, even though they were featured in local newspaper a few weeks ago. I kept the baby as comfy as I could. But the injuries were too severe and it passed this morning. My eldest son 8, cried his little heart out. And strange enough, since I walked in with it. Buster and Piper were faffing over the cage, checking up on the dove, and this morning they were both on top of its cage with wierd looks on their faces, that's how I knew something was amiss. I know its just a pigeon, but feel so bad not being able to help it. And the concern my babies showed this uninvited stranger just broke my heart. They just knew it needed help and instead of instinctively shunning this wierd bird, they tried embracing and engaging it in their daily routine. Love my angels for it! Rip little pigeon, at least you could die dignified not having to try run for your life or thirsting or being hungry. And you taught my birdies a bit of compassion as well. Xoxoxo

You did the best you could and at least she passed in a warm house and not being again attacked by wild animals. My guess would be that internal injuries that you can't see probably were just too severe. Thank you for trying:)

Yes, he at least got to be cared for and shown love and respect at the end of his life and not left to die. I think that means a lot!

I realize you where trying to help a poor birdie out. I'd be careful with sick /injured birds with my fids at home. I'd hate for you to lose your pets though a act of kindness. Just need to be careful.

Poor dove :( next time please keep wild/new birds away from your own or you'll risk even more sadness.

Thank you Henpecked and Copperarabian. I realise I did take a huge risk. It actually only dawned on me once I got home that the bird could have lice or goodness knows what else. At that moment I just for the life of me could not turn around and walk away from it. If I have to ever come across a situation like this I will take heed and rather keep it in the garage or another room. It was a potentially dangerous oversight on my part.

You never have to leave them be :) If I found a sick bird I could never leave it, I would just bring it to my friends house rather than mine, or keep it on the opposite end of the house.
