It's lovely, isn't it? Most of the effect is gained by careful choice of prints, but there's also a bit of machine embroidery (in the tails, especially) to get the desired markings. The quilt was inspired by a work of John Gould, the famous British naturalist of the 19th century.

Needless to say, I've been working away on an Alexandrine version, but do you think I can find green prints to match the matchless greens in my Beaks? Not on your life! The only solution, I think, is to hand-paint the fabric. Hmmmm... thinking...
