Ok, so Roxy is a screamer. I know this. I completely ignore her when she screams, and she knows I only respond when she talks or makes quieter noises. Alas, she still screams sometimes, and when she does, it makes you jump out of your skin. Anyways, she has developed this habit of screaming EVERY TIME I take a shower and EVERY TIME I blow dry my hair. It doesn't matter that I have the bathroom door closed. Does anyone else have this problem? We live in a one bedroom apartment, so she can hear the water running when I jump in the shower and she immediately gives off her shriek call, and repeats every few minutes or so. She does the same exact thing when she hears the hair drier go on (and sometimes when I brush my teeth because she hears the water). It would not be as big of a deal, except when she does it late at night. Last night at 10pm she screamed when she heard the hair drier, and she was covered with all of the lights off! I am just waiting for one of my neighbors to come knocking. Any ideas on why she does this and how to make her stop? I want to note, that I do take her in the shower with me sometimes, so could it be a jealousy thing? But that doesn't explain the hair drier...

Maybe the hair dryer has the same effect on her that me running the vacuum does for mine, they all want to take a bath when they hear it. In fact I have gotten to the point now where I turn it on before I start misting them because it makes them go CRAZY for their baths. How often do you shower, mist her?

My eclectus ,yells when I work out [have not figured out why yet]. Im new to ekkies . I just got 2 males [and boy are they loud]. We call them the bullhorn brothers when their going off . Or when their quiet their the "candy corn club" :)

There is something magical about the hair dryer in my home too. When I dry my hair, Chuy has a thousand word vocabulary. I know he's saying new words but obviously I can't make them out with the whiiiirrr in my ear... then when I shut it off, it's just "Hello". I'm pretty sure he thinks it's funny.

I think these sounds mimic the rain forest which kicks in their instinctual response putting them into parrot mode. Oliver sings and talks (loudly) whenever I'm in the shower or running the vacuum cleaner or even the blender. I think it's adorable personally...but of course I'm not in a small apartment nor is it late at night...so my heart goes out to you...not easy to shush our parrot kids...

Jade those the same thing when the blender machine is running, or dish washing machine.

Same happens if we are entertaining with many friends and house gets loud so he gets as loud too.

Is just normal i guess!

My conure loves to sound of running water. Every time she hears water running, she flies next to the water, sings, and dances away. Must be the personality of each bird.

Kiwi screams when we're in the shower Why? Because parrots LOVE water, and he wants to be showered too! I haven't had a shower by myself in YEARS:20: Why not bring her in the shower with you more often? They even make special suction-on perches so parrots can shower with you. And if the blow dryer is on low heat, they also enjoy the warm air. It's worth a shot! You may find she's screeching because she wants to join in the fun:09::D;)

And she may have been yelling at 10pm because the hair dryer woke her from a dead sleep and she was frightened, or the sound is irritating to her. Try shutting the bathroom door.

I have the suction cup perch, and I take her in the shower with me all the time. It's just the times that I don't. And I also bring her in the bathroom when I blowdry my hair sometimes, but I can't do it all the time. And I always keep the bathroom door closed! She still hears it. I thought it could be because she wants to be in there with me, but it's the same scream as when I leave the house or I'm in another room.

There you go. These are not unrelated, all 3 of these scenarios when she screams is you leaving her line of sight and in her mind, you are either in danger or having fun without her. I would try distracting her while creating a positive association with you leaving her vicinity. Put a treat in her foraging toy, swap out an old toy for a new one real quick, turn on the radio or tv, whatever distracts her that is a positive thing in her mind. Kiwi will holler when we leave the house if we don't fill up his foraging toys as we're walking out the door to "distract" him.

Perhaps try desensitizing her to the sounds?

Put the shower on, but just walk around the house normally for a couple minutes, then turn it off. (Don't do it for too long to waste water).

Do it every now again.
Same with the blow dryer.
