I don't know why but Rowdy has been sounding off her alarm screech all afternoon. No one is here, and nothing seems to be going on outside either. But, it keeps scaring the heck out of Merlin, who relies on Rowdy being a sentry to let her know that something scary is going on. So poor Merlin is hiding in a corner of her cage. And Rowdy going off continually made Pete start screaming, too, so poor Merlin is positive something is coming to eat her.

Poor Merlin! I'm sure you are cuddling her, and trying to make her feel secure. There may have been a sound that you didn't hear, or a shadow or something that scared Rowdy. I live near a busy road, and sometimes my birds will be alarmed by a siren, or accident, or screeching tires. And will keep up the racket long after the sound has passed. Who can figure out these "bird brains"?

Yeah, it's pretty weird because nothing seems to be going on. It is very quiet here. Very little traffic, and they are used to seeing some unusual vehicles like farm equipment, UTVs, ATVs, golf carts, etc. And none of my neighbors are very close. I looked at what houses I can see and no one seems to be outside.

I swear she is just being a brat today, lol!

I lured Merlin out with a Nutriberry!

Oh, poor Merlin, now she's decided she's going to take her nap down there in the corner.

Well, Roxy, napping is good! It shows that her stress is over. Or else she'd still be agitated. Like I said, who knows why they do what they do! LOL

aww poor merlin, an rowdy! nut goes mental when birds come to close to the window

Well, she started being her normal self after I cuddled with her for awhile. She went back to eating and playing. Then she went back into the corner and started pulling out some of her new little belly feathers:mad: She was plucking them in her previous home when her owners started having to travel. But, she hadn't done it here and most of them grew back. So I didn't want to see that! Then she went back to her normal self again and we had a big vocalizing session, and now she's eating her veggies.

I'm not sure what was up with Rowdy today. She may have been doing it just to get more attention. She doesn't yell at wild birds; she actually seems to like them. She doesn't usually yell about any animals. She's used to dogs, cats, horses, and she likes cows for some reason, too. She always gets really excited when we drive past some, lol! She's also used to raccoons, ground hogs and rabbits as all those things live on my property. She also once flew over to a mouse and said hello to it. And a cricket once, too. She thinks all animals talk and will greet anything, and then get mad that it doesn't answer her, lol!

Pyro is acting a little high strung today too. Maybe they know something we don't...

Let's hope there wasn't an earthquake or something.

I don't care how much noise Rowdy makes, but she stressed Merlin enough to pluck again, so that bothers me. Of course I can't be mad at Rowdy for that; she has no clue she caused that to happen. She also doesn't understand that Merlin can't see and judge for herself that danger isn't lurking nearby.

Aww poor Merlin. :(

You know we don't live that far from each other. I am in southern MI. I am actually about 35 mins from Ohio.

Rowdy! Quit being a butt and aggravating the family! lol

Cool, I am about that far south of the MI border! Well, maybe something was going on like earth tremors and I just didn't feel them myself. Pete rarely screams, and never has before while I was in the same room as him. He does it when I'm somewhere he can't see me, and even then, not often as I call to them.

Missy, that's pretty much what I was saying to Rowdy, lol! Quit being a butt head!

Pyro is definitely being strange. He has been screaming since I got home. He threw all his food out of his bowl, which he has never done before and its a huge mess. I picked him up and he started running around on my shoulders averting my touch. He is currently clinging to the back of my shirt out of reach.

Yeah, I've had Rowdy for more than 11 years. She only ever sounds the alarm screech when actual people are on my property. She does not yell at animals, other birds, people going down the road or the kid next door riding his ATV. She doesn't even yell when they are combining across the road. So it was very strange that she just kept doing it. She was fine when I came home from the grocery store, and while I had lunch. It started around 2pm and she kept doing it over and over for more than an hour. She would stop for awhile and play or eat, and then start again. So, yes, Merlin was convinced by all of that that there was a reason for her to hide herself.

Interesting that your bird is acting oddly as well and we are so close to each other.
