Rope scare

I would like to warn people about three stranded rope toys. If you can twist the rope on a toy and the strands separate don't use them! The thick strong ones don't separate.

This is what happened to my green-wing, Tina. This was a while back. We were in the kitchen ready to go out and I heard a sound from Tina in another room, it wasn't loud but different and I just knew something was very wrong, I took off into the room my husband close behind me. I got such a shock! Tina had manage to twist the rope an had put her head in the opening between the rope. She was hanging by her neck in her cage. I lifted her feet up while my husband undid the clasp on the top of the cage. I sat down with her and it took a little while to get her out of the rope because it had tightened up with her struggling. She was frightened but stayed still for me, she knew I was helping her. I have been very careful about any toy ever since. If it had happened after we had left, well, I don't want to put into words what we would have found when we got back home!

We have to all be wary of even the most innocent toys. Salty managed to unscrew one of the links used to hang toys, and got his beak wedged in there. His screams took on a more strident tone, and we got him out in seconds, but parrots left alone in cages may not be so fortunate. We now check those links once a week, to make sure they are tight ( with a wrench). Thanks for the heads up about rope toys. I am glad your baby suffered no harm.

Yipes, Eve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I typically regard new toys with extreme and creative paranoia... what could possssssssibly go wrong????

Thanks for the alert!

Could you take a picture of the toy? I want to make sure I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been under some stress, have fibro & my brain isn't working so great for thinking. :/

And we wonder why our birds act suspicious about the expensive new toys....why we gave to sneak them in....the birds know: it's a trap!

Sorry Janquito, it went straight in the dustbin. It is ropes that can unwind or are frayed that are not safe.
