So my little one is coming home in June or July, and I'm busy preparing. I already have a day cage, but am in need of a good roost cage for nights. I stay up kind of late often and don't want to upset my baby's sleep pattern.

However, I'm having a very hard time finding a cage with thick enough bars!
It's very difficult to tell online, and there are only two pet stores in my area, both with unsuitable cages in stock.

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Products-125BL-Parrot-Black/dp/B0002AQ3EU"]This is the main one I'm looking at.[/ame]
Are the bars too thin to withstand a congo grey's chompers?

What are some other suitable cages for a nightly roost cage? It would be better if it was a tabletop, though a standing cage would be okay well, and preferably somewhere around $100 (or less, of course!).

Oh no that cage is more for little birds... Lovebirds, budgies etc.

Look on Craigslist or eBay. even though you only want it for a night sleep cage I would think you want it a decent size.
My guys all have one cage. I used to have my CAG in my room back when I first got him and I always turned my tv down and covered his cage. He actually seemed to enjoy being in my room and once I moved and put him in the living room he didn't talk to me as much.
Losing him is the reason I wanted another large bird... He used to whisper to me in the morning when he knew I was supposed to be getting up. He would hear my alarm (I always snooze) and he would start quietly telling me hello.. I love you... Good morning... Always waiting til I uncovered his cage to break loose with the loud noises though.
He was so smart it was unbelievable.

Anyways.. That cage is too small.. Let me see if I can find one on eBay that might work..

My apologies, I was too busy yesterday to read or respond to your replies!

I should add that the cage will be used as a travel cage as well. I've been told that the cage I linked to is a decent enough size for a CAG to sleep in, but of course I'll do whatever is best for my little one. I've seen what I believe is this same cage in person (though at a ridiculous markup), and the bars were rather thick.

Doublete, the link you posted isn't active anymore ):

Kalypso, size isn't too much of a factor, as I'd have room for a full-sized cage in the roost room, but it needs to be small enough to fit whole in a car and sit atop a dresser. I go to my partner's house often, and my grey will be coming with me.

I'd been trying to find the recommended bar thickness for a CAG, and finally found my answer, which will hopefully make finding a cage easier.

Minimum for a CAG: 32 x 23 cage - 3/4" 1" bar spacing 4mm bars

I should be able to fit that in the back seat of my car. I'm a little bummed because I have a lovely spare cage that's big enough, but the bars are far too flimsy for my incoming monster.

I love how you're researching so much for your baby, Britt!! Ebay links don't ever work on here, unfortunately, so I wasn't able to check that one out.

I do know quite a few members have sleep cages for their AGs.

Now if this will strictly be a sleep/travel cage, I would say the first one you listed may actually work. :)

Oof, good to know that ebay links don't work. I'll try to remember that for future use!

I'm trying to learn everything I can before he comes home so I don't make little mistakes like I did with my other monsters ): I've been learning as I go along with them, but I want to be as prepared as possible for my little one. Plus, I'm too excited to really focus on anything other than grey research haha.

And yep, strictly a sleeping and travel cage.

We... Still haven't set up the main cage just yet. It's very large and my partner has been working a lot lately so we haven't had a chance yet to rearrange everything and put it together!
The roost cage won't be used until little one is able to be housed in the living room with the other birds (getting a full check up at an AAV certified vet when I take him home!). Or maybe it'll be better to have both cages in the roost room, and just move him to the roost cage at night so he can get used to see that as his sleep cage... Hmm.

I have been eyeing those Perch & Go cages for several months now! I might get one later so we can travel in style. I'm sad to say I just have a cat carrier for little one for right now.

I do want an actual cage-cage for sleeping though, because I guess the aviary gives them a special swing when they're old enough to perch, and he'll actually be coming home with it! I want to be able to hang the swing and maybe some snuggle toys in the roost cage so my baby doesn't feel so alone and vulnerable. I don't like the idea of covering cages when I can avoid it.

I managed to find this one:[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Wrought-Removable-Rolling-Black-Hammertone/dp/B00SXDOLMO/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1427488460&sr=8-10&keywords=parrot+cage+stand]Amazon.com : Wrought Iron Open Play Top Bird Small Parrot Cage With Metal Seed Guard and Removable Rolling Stand *Black Hammertone* : Pet Supplies[/ame]

But worry that it's too... Complex. Four cup holders?! But I like how secure it looks, and it comes with a removable stand. I do prefer flat tops, but little one won't be hanging out on top much anyway. Can just throw a bendy rope perch up there for him I guess?
And those seed guards are easy to remove (my monsters' cage has the same type).

Do you think that's too complicated? It's in the same price range as the others I was looking at anyhow.

 WOW....that would make one mighty fine sleep cage!! QUITE stylish, and plenty of room, too!! :D AND a great price! And yup, that cage with a bendable rope perch (or even one nice natural wooden perch - like dragonwood with bark - would be awesome)

I'll think about it a little more and see if I can't find another I like more, but this may be it then :D

My only apprehensions are that this isn't made by a name that I'm familiar with... And there are no reviews on it. It also doesn't say anywhere how heavy the actual cage without the stand is. So I may be in trouble if I need to move the cage by myself.

My partner is taking me out to a bigger city where there's an exotic pet shop (where I got Genevieve!). They have bird cages there that I was thinking of looking at. But they probably won't be cheaper than this... And are mostly used.

I was honestly getting pretty flustered that I couldn't find definitive answers online and was going to ask the shop owner for suggestions. Now I'll get to just enjoy playing with the baby birds and picking out some toys, which I love doing in person. We're making a full day-date out of it, and heading to the enormous mall out that way as well.

He's moving in with me at the end of the year and he's very involved in everything regarding my birds. I always ask his opinion on things like this, and I know I've been driving him crazy with links to a ton of cages haha

Oh you are going to have SUCH a great time at this exotic pet shop - no doubt in my mind! You must be so looking forward to it, too. When are you going?

And how exciting about your partner moving in with you at the end of the year! NIIICE! And even better that he's so involved. Sounds like a winner. :D

We're planning on going Monday. The store is amazing! The owner hand feeds the babies himself. Local breeders (and some not-so-local from all over the state) bring him young chicks and he weans them himself. You're able to open the cages and play with the older baby birds, and that's how I met and fell in love with Gené. He usually has baby greys there, but I decided the aviary I'm going to was a much better option for several reasons.

I haven't been leaving the house much this winter due to depression and my fibromyalgia flaring up, so we both agreed that we were going to start getting out together more.

My partner used to be a veterinary assistant for a short time and is wonderful with animals. He's so caring and wonderful, and is technically the reason I have my beloved Genevieve. He's also making getting my grey possible. He's bonded really well with my monsters and treats them so well, but he's only here once or twice a week currently so they don't see him too often and are wary for a little while every single time he shows up, but then they're like putty in his hands once they realize who he is.

He's been talking about taking several days off from work when my grey first comes home so he can be here to help me out since we both know I'll be a little overwhelmed at first. I can drive and have my license and access to a car (my parents', who I live upstairs from), but it's physically exhausting for me to drive most days, so he's taking me to go see my grey (who is currently close to an hour away).

Also, that same cage comes in a full dome style, versus the scallop: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Wrought-Removable-Rolling-Black-Hammertone/dp/B00SXDRLP8/ref=pd_sim_sbs_petsupplies_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0T36N06QAC6PVW09RKDK"]Amazon.com : Wrought Iron Open Play Top Bird Small Parrot Cage With Metal Seed Guard and Removable Rolling Stand *Black Hammertone* : Pet Supplies[/ame]

I'm not sure which I like more. I think maybe the scallop.

That's the cage I found on eBay :)

Great minds think alike ;)

Was it by chance cheaper on eBay?
I'm having a difficult time finding it ):

I think it was the same price actually.

I won't drive myself insane trying to find it then! Well, further insane. I spent too much time searching and found nothing for some reason ):

Thank you again!

No problem. I spend entirely too much time searching ebay and Craigslist.

I get drawn into those spells of surfing those sites sometimes too. Before I decided on getting a baby grey I'd check two local Craigslists daily for birds that needed to be rescued. Once in a while I still check, but it just makes me very sad. Those poor babies ): So many animals just getting tossed away to whomever.
I did get my Grey's big cage on ebay, but it was a new item being sold by a big company. I don't really trust people to buy used cages off of them. Though I did just get my steam cleaner in, which makes me feel less wary about buying used because I can sterilize things safely now!

The cage is got is immaculate and came totally dismantled so very easy to disinfect.

And yes. Craigslist is how I ended up with two instead of the one I set out for...couldn't say no.
