Definitely one for the Senior Avians section :). My Robin (male Red Bellied Parrot) is the most special animal Iā€™ve ever had. It actually feels like weā€™re soul mates and meant to be with each other. Iā€™ve had him his entire life...over 23 years.

On top of that, heā€™s easy to be with. Heā€™s so easy going, not real demanding although bonded with me, doesnā€™t freak out at very much (for a bird), AND he tells me he loves me when weā€™re cuddling . How awesome is that?!

Although I love all my birds, Robin is just more special. Heā€™s precious beyond words.

So it had been a while since his last exam and bloodwork, and was definitely due. It came back PERFECT :D! His entire exam as well as full blood panel was perfect. I was so happy.

The doctor is an ā€œavian onlyā€ vet with decades of experience, and he told me heā€™s never seen Poicephalus older than I think he said early or mid twenties. His own Meyers parrot (Gigi) is around Robinā€™s age too. Iā€™ve read of Poicephalus being much older than that, but heā€™s an expert and hasnā€™t seen it. Thatā€™s sort of disheartening. Robin (and Gigi) arenā€™t showing any signs of age, so hopefully what I read is true.

Fantastic news, Julie! Take a bow, you are a superb parront!

I am sure Robin and Gigi will buck the odds and set new records!

You know Robin was always my favorite of your flock, so I'm pulling for him to completely upend any currently held beliefs about his lifespan!

I'm so glad he got such a glowing report on his health. Given who his mama is, I can't say I'm surprised, though.

Any pics?

I am so glad sweet little Robin is in great health! Surely it is because of the excellent care and love you've provided him all these years. I bet he will be among the 'centurions' of poicephalus thanks to you!

Aw, thanks everyone for the complements :). I sure hope he will be among the ā€œcenturionsā€ of Poicephalus! He is like my ā€˜kidā€™ after all!

That is wonderful news and amazing strides for reaching ''height'' at that age. Glad that he has received astounding care from a great parront all those years, AND a Clean Beak of Health from the bird doctor. Here's to more and more!

Actually, he unfortunately did not receive the highest level of care for a lot of his life, let's just say, years ago when I was too busy for him :(. I'm still busy as ever, but we have grown so close, and I so desperately wish that I could get those years back! I'm just thankful that he is healthy.
