Roberto my scarlett macaw

Hi my name is Myriam- I have a scarlett macaw named Roberto and my husband and I adore him. Recently, he tried to fly away and our caretaker at our farm plucked his first feather on both wings to stop him from doing this again. My question is, is this the proper way to proceed? Afraid he did something wrong.

If anybody there knows the answer will greatly appreciate a response

Are you sure they plucked the feathers and didn't clip them? Plucking the feathers is the wrong thing to do, but clipping is ok as long as you watch out for blood feathers and clip the appropriate number of feathers.

Plucking a feather from a bird is very painful to the bird.... Plucking 1 feather from each wing did nothing but hurt the bird.. I'm sure Roberto can still fly...

I recommend you contact someone who is familiar with the proper grooming of parrots or a Vet .. For a proper wing clip...Once you see it done and it's explained to you ... You can keep it up..

NO! Plucking his feathers is not the right way to go! Google "macaw wing trimming" and you can find videos that will be very helpful for you. Plucking has many more risks that you don't want to get into. If the plucked follicle does not clot it could result in your bird loosing too much blood and possibly he could die.
