Maui was my first bird, my little monkey. She was a cinnamon green cheek that loved to cuddle and was an absolute character. She crawled right into our hearts and having lost her so soon is heart breaking. She was only 8 months old and we had her for 3 of those months. It's amazing how fast you feel that you have always had them. We bonded instantly and I knew I had to bring her home. I can't believe that such horrible accidents just happen and just like that, they're gone. I loved her more than I can say, and my husband and I have been keeping each other strong through this. We did decide to try again with a baby sun conure that we met at the same place I got Maui. We will not be bringing him home for a month since he is still being hand fed and so it gives us time to grieve and not compare because that's what Maui deserves, and what this new baby deserves. I absolutely spoil my pets, Maui would have had a long happy life of love, and it's so painful that she was taken so soon :( I miss her terribly

I'm so sorry for your loss:(

So sorry for your loss. What happen to Maui?

I am so sorry! :( It is so hard to loose such a sweet bird and so young.... :(

I just lost my 6 month old baby amazon. I read your post, and I know exactly how you feel. I am so terribly sorry.

Thank you everyone. She will always be in my heart :( The mornings are the hardest when she isn't there to wake me with her special call I taught her. I can't help but cry when I wake up to the silence :( I miss her more than I can say...

Tomorrow will be three weeks since I lost my baby boy. He was my first bird. I still cry every day. If you need anyone to talk to (who is going through the same thing) you can message me. Everyone tries to understand, but bird people KNOW.

I don't want to seem insensitive. I hope you are not offended that I asked that question. Some people can't talk about it so soon, if so I do apoligize. The reason for my asking is for us all bird owner to watch out for potential dangers that may have happened to members here. Also these birds are meant to live for a very long time and I have noticed many losses lately.

Considering the time of year, it could be a cooking accident. :(

So sorry!

Oh no, it wasn't a cooking accident! I never had her around anything dangerous in the kitchen. She decided to fly and was apparently right near me when she landed and I turned too fast trying to stop her from hurting herself not knowing how close she was to me, and I stepped on her :( It's hard for me to talk about because I am having a lot of guilt. I had shoes on so I didn't feel it until the damage was done....It was pretty horrifying. My pets have always been my babies and to have hurt one of them like that is just horrible :( :(

Accidents happen unfortunately, and are totally unpredictable. Guilt is always something we feel when something bad happen to our fids, even when the injury comes from another bird's doing, or their own doing (like when they get spooked and fly into a window or wall). Forums like ours are not meant for us to judge but rather learn from our experiences with our birds (good or bad) and support one another when tragedy strikes.
Thank you for sharing your experience and may you heal your heart. Let go of guilt and focus your energy on that baby Conure who will share your home soon :)

Thank you :) We are trying to remember her in all positive light and carry her with happiness rather than sadness because I think that's what she would have wanted. I get to see the new baby sun conure tomorrow for some more bonding time at the birdie rescue/store and birdie kisses always help!:orange:

oh that is so sad, I am so sorry to hear such sad news.
there is nothing worse than an empty cage, but soon when you are ready, it will be filled with another friend just waiting to be loved again.

So sorry Ash. I unfortunately had the same thing happen to Sylvester, my pet rat when I was younger. They love you so much they can't stand to be without you.
